Spawn Question?

I have 9 brf cakes of PES Hawaii.. This is my 4th grow, and i have been told that I should get some manure and use the cakes as spawn and then case with 50/50?

I am not an expert, and I also dont really feel like going out to a field and getting some cow poo.. I havre read posts about "Home Depot" style composts and everyone basically says they suck.

Is it worth the time to get some manure and use the cakes as spawn?
(Does anyone know of a good compost that I can buy that will work good, or is there no good substitute real poo )

Or do you guys think i should just try casing with 50/50?

I have only cased with pure vermic before...

Poo works wonders as a bulk substrate. It's also pretty easy to find for free too. I've never even bothered with any store bought composts. If you plan on going from plain verm casing to 50/50, go with 50/50+ instead of plain 50/50, less chance of contamination.

Permagreen's Mushroom Compost, one of thsoe "Home Depot comosts" has been working out great for me. It took about one and a half weeks to fully colonize without even a full cake being crumbled in it.

How about this?

"Scotts 3n1 mixed half and half with verm, wetted to proper moisture and loaded into jars. Sterilized in pc for 1 1/2 hrs. at 15psi. Cool over night, then spawned with colonized brf cakes. "

Can i do that exact process and use BRF cakes as spawn and then case it with 50/50?

Whats the difference between 50/50 and 50/50+?

Don't sterilize, pasteurize. Sterilization, believe it or not, will create a better chance at contamination.
