We have tons of salmon in Wisconsin, and there is no saltwater for thousands of miles.  They pull 35-lb Chinooks out of Lake Michigan by the bunch every day.

Lake salmon is safer cooked. Save them for the salmon skin rolls.

The majority of salmon in the world is saltwater, and the salmon that is used for raw sushi is saltwater fish here on the east coast.

I'm not sure if fish from the great lakes should be eaten at all. =/
