My search engine has been hijacked

Everytime I search for something now, when I try to select a link I am redirected to http://xfindmywolrdx.com/whatimsearching for and then directed to some bullshit advertisment site that may or may not be related to what I am searching. I recently had this stupid fake anti-virus scam-virus deal pop up on my comp and have been running a couple real anti-virus joints, found and removed a few infected files but something is clearly not right still. Any suggestions?

What anti-virus are you running?  Make sure it's up to date.  Try scanning with programs like Ad-Aware, which are specifically designed for spy-ware removal.  Are you using Firefox?

Internet explorer, which I fear may be part of the issue. I ran trojan remover, and it found one file. Then I downloaded avast and it was able to find maybe 8 more. Neither program seems to think anything bad is currently running though. I have adaware, but for some reason it won't let me update it and it finds nothing with the old database I have.

Just get firefox and ad-aware and stop downloading from sketchy porn sites :smile:

You should get Firefox and see if that fixes it.  It's not a big download or anything.  And I recommend getting the latest Trend Micro Internet Security, I run it and it auto updates all the time.  Since I've had it running I haven't had one problem with any virus/trojan etc.  And I used to get shit like that all the time.

I don't download any porn, I stream it all and it never causes problems. None of you have heard of this crazy anti-virus deal? It just comes up out of nowhere, had it happen while trying to log into myspace. Starts with a little pop up warning saying your computer may be infected and download now, and trys to trick you into sending money for this "software".  The main program seems to have been removed, but now my search engine won't work and I can't update adaware.

Possibly, it come's up like three or four times and if you click the wrong thing (ok/cancel) it installs itself. Happened to my mom, and I was able to fix it.

Sounds like your hosts file has been hijacked.

Go to start, run, and type:
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

It should look like this:

If it has anything else in it, delete it. It's redirecting your searches.
