No access to vermiculite!!!
    #987537 -

I haven't been able to locate any vermiculite. I've been to every store in town and nobody has it and I am not able to order over the internet. I have all the other supplies...is vermiculite 100% necessary? Can I make jars using only brown rice flour and have they worked for you? Thanks for your input.

you could try perlite but Itll probably not work well, if at all. another option is to try using pieces of wood, namely mulch. Wood absorbs water also shrooms grow on rotten wood. Thirdly try 1/3 crushed rice and 2/3 uncrushed rice for bulk. fourth, go get some verm from one of us, heck I could trade you some verm for a spore syringe or some 1/2 pint jars. PM me.

Look in the yellow pages under "mulch" -start with the biggest ad.

Perlite is a distant second choice, but it'll work. Keep the mix on the dry side.

I can also vouch for what Moe said. I ran out of perlite at one time and didn't feel like going out. A mouse I once knew mixed some BRF with Perlite. It seemed to colonize more slowly, but it did work.

Do you have a Walmart around? I went there, and the stupid employee said that they never sold vermiculite, and tried to sell me something called "leonardite"... whatever that is... but then I looked around on the shelves, and found a big ass bag of the stuff for $3.97 (canadian).

DEep24blue...I've been all over town. Meijer only has perlite. Lowe's carries verm but hasn't had it in stock for three weeks now.

User_exists...could you point me in the direction of a birdseed tek FAQ? Thanks.
