Removing graffiti from brick
    #9846710 -

Well, some stupid assholes decided to tag our building a few months ago. Since then there have been a plethora of other tags on the same side of the building. To top it off, they're all shitty 1-3 color gang-related tags. Fuckin amateurs.

Naturally my landlord/friend wants the shit gone once it warms up. He says he knows a guy with a pressure washer. I read online that you should put some kind of graffiti removal gel on it, then pressure wash.

I know we have a very broad user base here so I figured that SOMEONE has done this kind of work before.

I have a few questions:

1. This building was really old, like built in the 1870s old. Do you think the brick and mortar could withstand pressure washing? What psi should we shoot for?

2. Is the graffiti removal gel 100% necessary?

3. Do you think the pressure washed brick is going to be discolored compared to the rest of the building? Anyway to avoid it? Would sodablasting be better or worse for avoiding discoloration?

4. Is there some kind of slick ninja shit we could put on the brick afterward that would prevent tagging or make it easier to remove if/when it happens again?

No idea on how to remove graffiti, but if you wouldn't mind a kickass mural on your wall you could always find a graffiti artist and ask him to paint something sick looking on your wall. They probably wouldn't charge you for it either and you'd have a sweet ass wall.

Don't know how to get rid of the tags without creating a different coloration of the brick. I do know that the pressure washer can make the old bricks lighter, I've seen this happen first-hand. However this could be attributed to using too much pressure. Just found this site with instructions and they say a pressure washer between 900-1200 psi and the gel is the most effective economical method.

Haha, I was just looking at that exact same site. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with different power pressure washers. I used a 1300psi washer to strip my parents deck and that thing would blast holes in the wood if you got too close.

from my experience pressure washing things it usually discolors the part you sprayed compared to everything else. Especially if its really old bricks that have a lot of shit built up on it. not 100% on that though.

i wouldnt imagine that a pressure washer alone would be able to take off spray paint but ive never tried it. my guess is that your gonna need the spray paint remover shit.

I love looking through graffiti books, some of the artists have such illusions.

See, that's good graffiti. We have some stupid gang related shit on the side of our building which just encourages other gangs to spray their shit on there. Those motherfuckers are gonna be surprised when I put bear traps outside our building that painted like the pavement.

Yeah okay, I don't think it is a "mess".  I liked that graffiti.  However the local news station decided that there might be some people in the neighbourhood who find it an eye sore, and let them have their 15 minutes of fame while talking shit about it...  Which spurred a couple of my friends to paint over most of it with a thin coat of really nasty white colour...  Except the graffiti still kinda shows through 'cause the coat is so light, now you can see the texture of the walls- which is not attractive, and every time someone tags it, they patch it up with some off shade of white, yellow, pink or beige.  It's really ugly.  But there are plans in the works for a mural.

Anyway, sorry.  I don't know how to remove graffiti.  :undecided:
Putting a sign out saying that the cops will be called if anyone sees taggers marking up the wall might help for future deterrent.

I don't know anything about removing spray paint from brick, but this site seems like it would be helpful.

The first two are cool, the last one is lame.  Looks like something you would see at a YMCA, haha.
