why does poo have to be dry first???

why does the poo have to be dry before u can use it?, when pasterizing it you have to dunk it in water anyway.

by asking this question i am not asking wether fresh poo can be used...i live in rainy england and now that winter is coming it rains pretty much every day so the only poo i can get is wet stuff......but it is still old poo with all the piss gone out of it.

i just made a poo casing that i made from wet poo and it colonized fine.

No replies, eh? I've been sort of wondering the same myself, and just presumed it was wrong somehow.

The RH and temperature here in Norway doesn't really allow me to dry the poo outside (we've got five inches of snow by know), and I must admit - I'm not very fond of having shit drying in my house. We're talking rather large quantities here, too.

If you end up experimenting with this, or get a reply in a PM, would you mind letting me know?

If dung is dryed completely then all or most of the harmfull chemical associated with urine are gone, that is the main reason. If it has been dryed from the sun and then rained on, it is fine. Hope that helps.

When it?s drying, there are biochemical changes undergoing with the dung, which make it less prone to contamination. Now don?t ask me why and what exactly happens, i just know it does. I see it as a kind of a mild composting process.

i understand what you are saying, but my question was more to do with JUST the poo been wet....

like in england everything is wet....but the poo has probably dried out many times in the sun and then been rained on again.....is this just as good as getting it when it is dry?

I guess that's a good method for drying it too, then (or at least adjusting the moisture level somewhat)? I've got a few pounds (~15) of rather wet poo, could I just slam it in the oven, pasteurise it, and increase the moisture level afterwards with distilled water (if needed)?

Sounds like a plan to me...
