Quick Horse Poo Tek Preperation Questions!!
    #1238101 - 01/21/03 10:43 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

I pausterized the store bought manure and it just looked like plain mud to me so I decided not to spawn on that nasty stuff, and to go get Horse Poo!

Mission Accomplished!

Most of the Horse Poo I got is already dry and broken up, but there are some wet clumps still! Not completely fresh, just not dry.

I have it standing out right now, hoping it'll dry quick, but I gottah spawn these jars quickly, I don't want them to sit 100% colonized for too long.

Do you think if I put the oven on low and put the poo in the oven for a little bit, maybe even with the door open so it doesn't get too hot in there, it would dry the poo of all amonia (piss) well enough for me to start pausterizing? I read somewhere on here that you want to make sure all the poo is dry before you pausterize due to the amonia in the fresher dung.

Or can I just start pausterizing these fresher clumps of dung?

Also do I want the poo to be field capacity wetness when I'm ready to spawn?

Thanks for all da help,

Peace,

No, this would be too wet. Squeeze a handful and some water drops should drip out.

You pretty much want the dried out stuff.
Let the wet stuff dry out in a garage or some place out of the weather.

If you are not sure if the poo is ready....leach it.

good luck!

Is it alright to speed the poo drying process by putting it in the oven with the temp on low, and with the door open so it doesn't get too hot?

Thanks for the reply Anno,

Oh yeah, does anybody know if it's absolutely necessary to add hydrated lime to my coco coir/verm casing mix? I kown most people add it, but I have no clue where I would get that stuff!

That is going to sink to high heaven.
I wouldn't do it!

You don't have to add lime to 60/40 Verm and Coco Coir casing material.

You would soak the horse poo in water to get out the ammonia.
Basically just soak it then drain it.
Then pasturize it.

I bet you gather enough horse poo this Summer for the Winter after this!

good luck!
