Results from my experiment [pics] * 1

so the experiment is still goin' on, but i have my first results, what i learned from that.

the substrate was corn flour and sugar mixed with rye grains soaked in previously boiled beer. NO verm or any other fluffy or airy stuff inside. as you can realize the substrate was thick as hell:



innoculated: 22/9 with Thai Lipa Yai

today, a month later, there is almost full colonized:



so i have learned so far:

a) that substrates if are perfectly sterilized can stay in the incubator for loooong periods of time without any bacteria or other contams.

b) that the mycelium is strong enough to colonize even the thicker substrates, so there is no need for putting verm or other airy materials except if in a hurry. those materials catch up space inside the jar, space that can be food for mycelium as well.

i wonder too... lol

but this is somethin' we will c in the near furture [next 6 months till colonization is 100% lol]

anyway, i cant prove it on this photo, but earlier, there was another interesting thing Anno. the white myc appeared on several spots almost at the same time, but those spots had no connection with the rest of the mycelium. it seemed to either grow from inside of the substrate or to be a contamination of some kind. i thought it was contams allright but i didnt throw the jar. a couple of weeks later i realized it was no contam because there are white rhizo hair on that mycelium, its just impossible to see it because of the quality of photo and the fact the substrate is very thick to allow it show off!

we will c in the near future!

  • Why do you use sugar? I've never heard of that.

  • Also, did you water it at all?

  • And I don't see a way for CO2 to get out.
