Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I couldn't decide which forum it belonged in.

Now, my question is, how much marijuana, in ounces, does an average homegrown, indoor plant produce?

I'm thinking of starting to grow just for myself, and it seems easy enough, and would simply be a cool experience, and have been reading some guides and they are all very informative and all, but I was curious how much one plant generally yields.

an average plant i would say anywhere from 2-4 ounces i believe. But i believe it varies on strain and whether its hydroponic or soil grown

damn, id like to know this. ive got some plants out doors that are doing nicely. the thing is theres 2 plants in one section, one budded at 10 inches, has barely grown since then. the other- a couple inches away has yet to bud but keeps growing. its like 16 inches now. whats up with that? i think something about male+female problems

Outdoor plants can be weighed in pounds as opposed to ounces :smile:

I would say 2-4 is average for a good INDOOR grower.  If you've never done it before then expect less.

Over time a grower learns to get the ambient conditions just right.  Heres a couple of things I've been told to get more nug.

Always use the correct grow medium - if your using compost then you will have to mix it so that it drains properly etc  Theres various soil mixes described in the grow guides on the net.

You need fans to make the buds grow big, so make sure theres good clean air flow and that the plants are moving (being blown) about!

Don't over water (common problem) but don't underwater too!

You will want to prune the plants.  You will probably get a higher yield if you nip the ends - so as to grow two tops instead of one.

If you grow cuttings hydro style you will end up with much better weed and it will grow faster too!

Don't forget when you've grown the nugz you need to dry and cure them correctly to get them smoking fruity!

Theres actually a hell of alot involved in growing weed!

Its kind of misleading for all these people to be throwing out numbers.

There are so many factors that can change. You can be growing the plant under a 40w CFL, its a clone, untopped, in a dixie cup, and you flower it a 4" tall. That plant might barely yield 1 gram.

Take that same clone, put it under a 1000w in a 5 gallon bubble bucket, veg and prune it till its 3 feet wide and 2 feet high, then flower, you will probably yield 1+ lbs off that plant.

There are entirely too many variables. I didnt even get into nutes. Thats why grow books always measure yield either in GPW (grams per watt), or GPSF/SM (grams per square foot/square meter).

I know its hard to accept, but there is no average yield for an indoor marijuana plant. It all depends.

Dude you should take your plants out of the pots and dig a huge hole in the ground for each of them like 10 gallon capacity hole so the roots are not restricted.


i saw a outdoor pot grow one time in my life and this guy had plants about 7 foot tall and bushy as hell too it was like august when he showed them to me and they all had thousands of little buds on them


it was cool.

average is a bad word to use, because of the many different varieties available. thinking interms of averages will screw up your thinking.

this is a way too broad question.
it would depend on your amount of skill and methods used.
size of plant when put into flower makes a massive difference also.
if you were growing from cuttings or from seed makes a big difference.
strain makes a big difference.

i used to achieve 5oz per plant with strains such as blueberry, powerplant and euforia, when i let plants veg for a few weeks - they would be about 5' tall at harvest.

then on the other hand when i went straight from clone to flower i used to achieve about 1 oz per plant - they would be less than 2' at harvest.

so there ya go, somewhere between 1 and 5 oz lol

too many variables. what setup do you plan on using.indoor, outdoor,hydro nft,aero,ebb n flow,bubble buckets, what medium rockwool, hydroton,coir and verm,or soil. what kind of nutes or lights. are you going to do co2 enrichment? like I said too much to consider. better yet tell us how much you are trying to grow? what king of goals do you have. that way you can get some sugguestions on how to get where you want to be. Ive grown lowryders that yeild eights and Ive grown some outdoor sativas that yeilded me 10+ lbs per plant(was not the best herb)
