Harvest yet? Help!
    #979978 - 10/21/02 01:44 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Hi.  I'm a real amatuer and this sounds very stupid.  I am growing Stropharia Cubensis. The tallest are 4 inches.  I notice that on some of these the veil is broken and grey/black gills are showing.  All things I've read say to harvest when the veil breaks but things I've seen on stropharia (sword belt) show mushrooms with that belt kind of around the middle and gills prominently showing on the cap above.  My question is do I harvest my boys now, when the veil has broken, or should I let them be?  Is that "sword belt" even the veil?  This is the basic post so don't make fun of me

Well man, as soon as the viel breaks, on no matter what kind of cubensis, its time to harvest because those shrooms are at peak potency. You can let them grow if you want to see your shrooms look like what you described, but that would just be wasting nutrients that other mushrooms could use to grow. So, in my opinion, harvest them.
