I'm one of those stupid newbies out there, wondering about harvest... I have read that you should harvest before the caps opens... but I'm not sure if i should stay cool or harvest asp.... Picture from Wednesday

Picture from Thursday

Picture from Friday

Picture from today (Saturday)

Sorry for the bad pics, and don´t mind the hygrometer - it shows about 10% to much (could´nt afford anything better ). The mushroom is from a grow box in case you wonder, its my 4th setup and my previous 3 setups all failed lol (did PF tek but never got any more than 3-4 mushrooms lol)- dust it of and try again as they say.... Sorry for the bad English.
Hope the pics can help a bit, the box was "birthday-ed" a week ago...

according to the last picture they're only about 3/4 size... they have some more growing to do...
wait untill a few caps open befor you harvest (you should also consider making some spore prints for future use!)
looks nice... congratulations on your first sucsess and welcome to the shroomery

Food quality is best if you pick them at the stage of your pictures above. I prefer to pick just prior to the veil tearing. They just seem to go down easier, without that 'make you puke' horrible taste. RR

First, thank you for the nice comments
Harvested my mushrooms today, early this morning. Couldn't sleep so i killed some time by taking some pictures....
Picture from Sunday

After harvest - should i remove the black midgets ?

put them in a bag with some paper and covered it with plastic...

Sadly, i missed the opening of the caps ( i was up all nigh listening on :W:umpscut and Funker Vogt, but i got distracted at the wrong moment - it happened so fast ).

Oh, wasn't sure if i should harvest them or not but i though it would be better to early than to late
The strain is Stropharia Cubensis and it´s grown on organic substrate of vermiculite and wheat. The temperature was around 24 degrees Celsius (recommended for the strain according to seller). Didn't ventilate very much, only one small opening in the lid and opened the lid every 3:rd day and blew some air to remove gas at the bottom of the box... Well that was my story - just try-ed to follow instructions on the net....
I don't want to post the link, but you can probably find something that suites your need with the links/google (hope your not pissed, but it can be sensitive with links in forums).
Removed the plastic cover and put a newspaper to cover the box (don't want dust in it), pure ghetto style. Will try to find a suitable container and put them in the freezer.
again, thanx for the comments

either put them in the fridge if you're going to eat them soon or dry them out!
DONT put them in the freezer unless they're 100% DRY!
if you're looking to store them for more then 5 days you better dry them out and in that case you should put them out in the air (maybe infront of a fan or something) untill they're cracker dry!
otherwise you'll have rotten shrooms and all your efforts would have been in vain!
also... don't fret about the harvest time... it doesn't make THAT much diffrance (i would have arvested exectly when you did
and YES you should remove the little black shrooms you left on the casing (they're what we call "aborts", they won't grow any bigger and if left long enough will rot on the casing and invite all sorts of conteminations) dry those too and eat them just as you would the big shrooms
