caapi indoors
    #963431 -

i just recieved a live caapi plant(about 1 foot high). it is now getting chilly in the mid-east coast and i was wondering if any of you have experience with growing b. caapi under flourescents for the winter? also, i am anticipaiting the arrival of a couple small p. viridis plants and would love some tips on keeping these healthy. i have a feeling that they are going to be a little tricky. thanks folks

man, give it up - i don't know why but people who grow this vine seem not to like to share their experiences (not to mention their plants), very unlike shroomers and everybody around the garden here...
but it shouldn't be that hard - watch it everyday and you'll know if she wants more or less of this or that... i bet it also get's pretty cold on their natural habitat but nowhere near to the indoor temps so it shouldn't be such a concern.
SalviaEngland has knowledge on p. viridis he sure can give you some more precise pointers... good luck.

thanks for your reply. i appreciate it. im sure i will do ok with the caapi, its just the p. viridis that may be a little trouble. spending time with your plants is great advice though. with close observation the needs of the plant tend to be presented to you.

Have a read of this post: Psychotria viridis - Chacruna Update 2:

Also try to search for some more posts with Psychotria viridis.

Caapi would probably enjoy the same environment as Psychotria viridis.

*Avoid dry conditions
*Feed regularly
*Avoid direct sun light
*Use compost with perlite

I would opt for a humidity tent, but many would argue that its not necessary and causes pest and fungus problems.

Good luck

Uhh... yeah, the equatorial Amazon rainforest is sure known for its cold nights.

Its an easy to care for plant, and as long as its got light, water and is kept fairly warm, itll be fine. The closer you can get to a hot and humid rainforest, the better, but itll definately get by in cool or dry air.
