B. caapi
    #11042085 -

i was wondering if anyone has grown these succesfully.  seems like a fun plant to have.  the place that has the cuttings says they can withstand hot as fuck to almost freezing:confused:.  im wondering if theyre realy hardy or if thats just marketing BS.

ayahuasca vine.

and ya false advertising is illegal but people still do it. i used to buy "all natural herabal blend) that would list a bunch of ethnos and say thats what it was.  of course later everyone found out it just JWH-O18 and HU-210 .  i had another  blend (ad still have some left)  that hgad methcathinone ephedrine and something else.

anyway tho,  bak to B. caapi

False advertising is illegal, but so is growing shrooms and you don't see that stopping anyone around here.

At any rate, Banisteriopsis caapi is a rainforest plant with a powerful MAOI. It's traditionally what's used for Ayahuasca, along with Psychotria viridis.  I've never grow it, but I suspect any plant will whether a *brief* (a couple days or so) dip to near freezing.  B. caapi (along with most everything else in the rainforest) doesn't strike me as something that's particularly hardy though, so I imagine your vendor is talking it up quite a bit. Then again, I've been wrong before.

If they're quality cuttings, it'd still be cool to have one, but I wouldn't bank on it tolerating being planted outdoors anywhere above Zone 11 or 10.

Some hardcore tropicals will die when the temps drop in the 40's but you're right, the vast majority of plants (even many from tropical regions) can take temps down to freezing for short periods at least.  It would be a stupid reckless move to subject potted or young caapis to any frost, but in ground caapis will survive frosts as long as they aren't too prolonged or intense.  I'd say Zone 8 and up when established in ground (In z8 it'll probably get froze to the ground but should come back in spring).  Although the cooler the zone the less chance of it flowering, won't be as vigorous as a plant that doesn't have to deal with cool winters.

That sounds like a pretty ideal environment if you can keep it watered, and with adequate humidity.

B. Caapi needs a lot of sun and heat, and hates cold.

mine grow in 25-40 degree (celsius) and in full sun for 10 hours recently, they do great.  with the longer hours though, i do notice some leaf wilt and damage in extra bright days.

I have some in the ground in zone 9a and they do ok in the winter. They have survived 2 of them so far... not as big as I would like them to be but they are relatively hardy.

By the way, hello Kdakuda! Long time no see! I've been on an extended hiatus... hope everything is going well...
