Kava Kavaa

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Kava Kava... I have heard wonderful things about this plant, but have not experienced them. I have known of Kava for 2 years, but this past summer something spurred my interest and I went to my local health store and bought some Kava Kava extract. The bottle says to take one dropper full of the extract in a glass of water. I have taken up to 4 droppers full and really did not experience any effects at all.

Would it be different if I bought the actual root and brewed the drink myself, rather than using the extract? How intense are the effects? Would you classify it as more or less effective than a xanax? Is it worth it to buy the root and try it again, or should I just move on?

I've never even heard of Kava.
I'm assuming it's not the same as the Kava  coffee right?

I've taken it in pill form.


First time i took it (one pill) i got sedated & semi-fucked up.

Second time i took it was drunk and it didn't do shit


:shrug:

got a whole bottle of it sittin' next to me.  perhaps I'll try some out again tomorrow while I wait for my fake weed to come in the mail.

ah kava kava..it is pretty nice, but subtle. If you are a pot smoker than kava won't be much of anything new, although it's a bit more relaxed than pot. I would say it's more like a straight relaxant, accompanied with minor feelings of euphoria..the most ive taken is 20 pills of 250 MG kavalactones. It was a nice time.
in normal doses, kava is a stimulant for the brain. It helps with focus.

I went on a trip to Fiji once, and when I was there I am pretty sure I had kava.  They called it "grog" and it was some kind of powdered root that you wrapped up in a T-shirt and kind of brewed in water for a while.  I was smoking herb and drinking beers at the time as well, but I would say that it made the evening more lethargic than normal.  Kinda slowed things down for a while.

I might be mistaken, but I think they said the plant it was made from was kava.

The word grog refers to a variety of alcoholic beverages. The word originally referred to a drink made with water or "small beer" (a weak beer) and rum, which was introduced into the Royal Navy by British Vice Admiral Edward Vernon on 21 August 1740. Modern versions of the drink are often made with hot or boiling water, and sometimes include lemon juice, lime juice, cinnamon or sugar to improve the taste. Rum with water, sugar and nutmeg was known as bumboo and was more popular with pirates and merchantmen.

You mean java? No, kava is known to be psychoactive, but really weak. I wouldn't even bother with it.

would kava be good for anxiety? i have severe anxiety problems and im trying to find something to help it that ISNT a pharmy. im sick of all the pills the doctors give me. im trying to get off of klonopin right now...

I always feel body drunk but clear headed on it. I make smoothies out of the powder. Making it as a tea never really worked for me.

Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) would be more for anxiety.

Actually the paste worked pretty good for me. Nice and sedating. It will make your tongue and throat numb if you don't swallow it quickly. Of course I doubled the recommended dosage. I was pleased with the results.

I've never used it as more then a sleep aid... but it work better for that then anything else i've tried.

I made a thread in Physical & Mental WellBeing a few months back asking about herbal anxiety remedies because doctors were trying to put me on some crazy shit.

If you run a search for it, you should be able to find it.  I got some good recommendations, but in the end I didn't end up using any of them for very long.  Sheer will-power and deep breathing exercises won the battle over anxiety, in my case.

I refuse to live a inferior quality of life due to something that's going on in my own head.  Fuck that bullshit - I'M IN CONTROL DAMNIT.
