This may seem like a crazy question but, are shrooms like.. liberty caps full o' maggots? Some kept telling me about them being full of maggots. Just wondering if he's taking the piss cause someone is getting a few dozen for me. Only had dried mushrooms before.
I hate maggots , insects!

Yes! I have this problem and it's horrible. Basically, they start munching out the caps of the liberty caps quite soon after they are picked (sometimes they're already started by the time you pick them). So after picking my shrooms I always start drying them as quickly as possible. Once the shrooms start to dry out, the maggots cannot eat them because they are too tough and dry, so they crawl out of the shrooms and die of starvation I must say it's very satisfying to see the little bastards being killed off, but it is pretty disgusting.
I usually get around 60 liberty caps at a time, and from that number I can expect anything from 5 to 20 maggots to be in them. There's also tiny (like the size of a fullstop on your screen . ) insects that jump around, so I squash them pretty quick too.
But a bit of protein never did anyone any harm.

Maggots, insects are my greatest fears. I need atleast 1 metre distance between THEM and me, or else i'll pee my pants and cry for mommy. I wouldn't say that normal flies disgust me much, they're just annoying when they fly around.

i still wouldn't wash mine. i like my "shrooms" to be as "shroomy" as possible. washing is counterproductive to this aim. solubility in water is the problem. you already eat thousands of bugs a year. spiders, mites, flies, gnats, tiny little invisible germs with guts!! YUM! seriously, i never had a bug prob with psilocybes. at least not like kings.

viscid, i jknow hat you meen about the boletes. any given hunt i may find ten good boletes and have to leave another forty behind because they are so bugridden that they fall apart when you try to pick them up. i have had lots of frustration with bugs in my semies too though.
-------------------- Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

I know how you feel malachi... The other day, I was scanning some mushrooms to get an ID but had to go out for supper, so I left them in the scanner. I came back a few hours later, opened the scanner and there were fucking maggots crawling around the mushrooms. Some of them turned to this black ooze and was FILLED with maggots. I fucking flipped out. I grabbed a torch and started burning the little fuckers that were about to escape the scanner. Then I got a garbage back, worked up the courage to lift the scanner and fucking threw it in the bag. I tied it, brought it outside and threw it in my neighbours (not right next door) garbage can. Fucking bugs...
Oh and it was only a 100$ scanner I bought 3 years ago. I don't know what I would have done if it was brand new...
