Another one of those outdoor questions!

The character in a book I am reading lives on the eastern north american coast, and the temperature where he lives is already into the high 30's at night, but it still gets into the 70s during the day. The character knows that it is too late to expect any harvest, but he was wondering what would happen if he planted the patches now .... ? Mycelium killed completely at freezing temperatures, or would anything regrow in the spring? Our character has searched and searched to no avail for information on cold fruiting species, and was wondering if there were any cubies that were cold fruiters? Any help is appreciated.

I do not know the answer , but a gardeners trick to protect ground crops (carrots , beets , etc .) from freezing is to pile straw on top of growing site , this protects soil from being frozen . Then when temps rise move away straw . If you live in Alaska , I would wait .
No matter what, growth will be very slow" if at all" in cold temps you mentioned , so do not excpect alot . Mycelium will lay dormant in cold temps , thus bettering chances of some competitor dominating the patch come spring time .
