I know we also have G. curtisii, G. oregenense, G. resinaceum and G. tsugae growing in the U.S., with perhaps other species (or sub-species) yet to be separated out.

Yesterday afternoon I went by the park where I found some ganodermas, and collected a few that still seemed fleshy.  All the others I've seen are dead and decaying, already being munched on by blue-green mold.  They look almost exactly like Tripsis' reishi.  I took a few tissue cultures yesterday but I'm not sure they'll take.

I'm pretty sure the ones I found are Ganoderma curtisii considering my location.  The really immature fruits are a deeper red, while the mature ones are that yellowish-ochre color.

Where did this strain originate?

You'll have to ask Lipa that. I would be interested in knowing myself, it's a very productive isolate.

Well, the G. curtisii/lucidum cultures I took are going pretty well.  I had a hard time finding tissue that didn't require sawwing to remove, but I managed to scrape off some of the tissue between the top and the pore layer.  There's a little activity on the plates, but oddly enough, it seems to be growing faster on pasteurized cardboard.  I can see why this is labeled a "plant pathogen" on some USDA/forestry  sites!

Thanks dstark. Yes, it certainly is warm here at the moment, it's the middle of summer. Temps have been reaching in excess of 35°C around here lately.

I've been trying to find info on growing Ganoderma when I found your post and shroomery on a Google search. Can you direct me to any useful info on growing Ganoderma? I grew some shrooms way back in the early 80's from a kit - once. I'm very interested in Ganoderma after being introduced to it recently and getting an energy and clarity that is incredible. I'd like to learn how to grow them and have read in several sites that it's impossible outside of a lab/ business enterprise. Do you know of a good primer to lean from. Thanks!

Check the FAQ

Try the Search

And finally, look up the name Paul Stamets.

If that's not enough to get you started, don't even bother.

Whoa, damn.  I thought we were trying to encourage people to grow their own food and medicine.
