Re: PS3 or Blu-ray disc player? [Re: JonPathetic]

For a while, PS3 was the best blu-ray player on the market.  This may not still be the case but regardless, its probably one of the better deals in that price range.

Unless you have a TV larger than 42" though, you probably won't notice the full benefits of 1080P.

At this point they probably have some nice stand-alone blu ray players, but I would still go with the ps3. Plus you get a ps3 out of the deal..

I'll probably always do drugs, so that just contributes to the addiction to The Shroomery... It's a vicious circle of bliss. :tongue2:

You'll be pretty much paying the same amount for a Blu-Ray player as you would for a PS3? So why not just get the Blu-Ray player that is also a game console, has built in WiFi, and can run Folding@Home so you can help humanity???

I bought myself a PS3 and I've never regretted it. The blu-ray player is wicked on my tv and there are finally awesome games out/coming out for the console. So yeah, one more PS3 reccomendation here.

P.S. Folding@Home is awesome - I still haven't joined the Shroomery folding group though :/

I'm finally getting Blu-ray but I'm not sure what to buy. Is a PS3 just as good of a player as the regular Blu-ray disc players (for Blu-ray discs)? Right now I'm leaning towards buying a PS3. Can you guys help me out?

ps3 is definitely one of the better blu-ray players on the market, plus it has lots of extra compared to all of them, plays games, surfs the internet even w/ wireless keyboard and mouse, has harddrive.

Not only this, since things keep getting upgraded and changing, as blu-ray cannot seem to lock down all their features still, it is the most easily upgraded player.  Just download the update from online and update it, as simple as that, standalones can be updated too, but its much more troublesome.

a stand alone player that is as good as quality as the ps3 will be 350+, may as well just get the ps3 IMO...i love mine, though i don't watch many blu-rays, as you can download hd content and stream it to the ps3, and in conjunction with a freenas server, this is awesome feature.

peace

Streaming content is such an awesome feature, you can't overlook that when shopping for a BluRay player.

I just read that the PS3 is suppose to drop in price sometime this year. It said it would be a significant drop too...You might want to wait a little while.
