cake not pinning

i have 2 cakes that are in a perlite terrarium. nothing is happening accept one mushroom grew, it weighed about 6 grams wet. there is just some fuzzy mycellium growing on the cake. what do i need to do to make the cake start pinning?


the humidity seems to be ok, there is condensation on the sides.
the temp is about 76 degrees. they are getting a good 10 hours of light a day.
i am fanning them once a day, in the evening.

I think you need to fan more than once a day, try three or four times a day, they need gas exchange, or they wont grow.
You could also try to dunk and cold shock them, that would certainly initiate pinning.

Try fanning more often. I think 2 or 3 times a day might help.

thanks guys, i will put them in the fridge tonight for 24 hours. also i will fan then a few times a day. what temp shoul the fridge be at?

Cold shock initiates pinning. Place the cake submerged in water for aobut 20 hours no more than 24. I think your problem for you, the poster, is you have too much humidity. If the humidity is too high or way too wet, the myc will only fluff up. This is a sign that the cake is dormant and still in the colonization stage.

ok i was too lazy to put them in the fridge last night but i am going to put them in today. when i looked at them today there are 2 new pins on one of the cakes and the one mushroom's veil has broken and its cap is turned toward the ground.
i am going to pick it later.

should i still cold shock it?
sfter this flush i will definately dunk them.
