Yessir. Refrigerators  may not be a good idea cause they're humid.

Put a hygrometer in your refrigerator. You'll be surprised. Just because it's cold in there doesn't mean it's humid.
If the ziplock bag is sealed airtight and there is a little baggy of desiccant in it with the shrooms the refrigerator is actually a perfect place for storing them.

You know I have respect for you Kahuna butI have to disagree on the refrig thing.  Although you are correct about the aridity of the fridge, it is colder than my kitchen which causes everything in my fridge to get a layer of condensation on it every time I open it.  This is the difference between humidity and condensation debate again...It is possible to have water on the bag of fruits as they get funky and rotten at the same time the hygrometer reads below 20%RH in the fridge.

finally, someone with some sense.  It's dry as hell in your fridges.  Cold air holds less water than room temp or warm air.  That's why in cold areas of the world during the winter months your hands get cracked and you get shocked by everything.  There's no moisture in the air.  Your fridge is no different.  Ever wonder how if you leave a piece of pizza in the fridge uncovered it turns rock hard after a couple days?  No moisture left in it.  Skip the baggie though and just leave them in there either uncovered or in a paper bag.  You can dry them out better during the summer with the fridge if you don't have desiccant handy.

Seriously? I just cracker dry them and throw them in the freezer. They hit me just fine and store for years.

again I say avoid the fridge.  my opinion based on many pervious factors, take it or leave it.  Most of us have stuff in there from 2005 because we are afraid to touch it.  The butter tray gets a nice fog of condensation everytime you open it.  the slime in the bottom of the crisper drawer from that head of lettuce you forgot to toss.
ok, maybe just my fridge!

I can see the thing about the condensation. But that shouldn't be an issue if the bags are sealed correctly and the mushrooms are cracker dry. Oh and my fridge doesn't look like what you described.
Nevertheless, I have to admit that I don't store mine in the refrigerator, but in a built-in cupboard that's adjacent to the outer (stone)wall of my kitchen. It's has small air vent slits to the outside. Even during Summer it stays cool enough to keep the butter in there and now, in Winter, it's almost colder than the fridge (just above freezing). The advantage is that there is a constant airflow in there. It's cool, dry and dark with fresh air. Perfect conditions for storing all kinds of things.

i think a good idea would be to get some Carmel. the kind they wrap in wax paper. It's easy to make. Let cool to room temp, take a food processor and chop up fresh mushies real fast less than 20 seconds dump into Carmel and mix. just coat it, don't want excess carmel. just enough to coat. Now that its all coated stick into wax paper and store. good?bad?

how do you think this would stand up against time. being fresh and all.

Could dehydrate, grind into flour, vacuum seal then store in the fridge or freezer or a desk drawer.

It's all religious belief, really. I've had dried libs in a ziplock sitting in a drawer and after a year they were as potent as ever. As long as you dry them out properly and store them in a dark place you'll be fine.

Maybe it depends on the individual refrigerator? I mean, I use a mini fridge that only has cans of pop in it, never food.

yeah, once they are cracker dry and you put them in bag or container, they can't get condensation on them.  But grinding them up and putting them in something like chocolate, honey, caramel, etc. that will keep air away from the good stuff is an even better idea.

I just dry my mushrooms, put them into big jars with rubber seals, and each jar has 2 packs of desiccant and two packs of oxygen absorbers each, and throw them in the freezer. I've tried some that have been about 6 months old, with no noticeable decline in potency. I don't have any that are older than that, but I would think they would keep for a long time. I don't really keep food in my freezer.
