just got a *pitbull* (maybe the word pitbull will pull more people in)

a friend of mine has a pit bull that just had puppies. 10 puppies in the litter, and they were born on thanksgiving. so theyre abotu a month and a half old. ive been thinking about getting a dog for a long time, but never knew anyone with pit bull puppies, then he told me i could have one :smile: so i chose an all white male. ill put up some pics when i can.

he got to my apartment and started whining and bein all sad. i think he misses his brothers and sisters :frown: oh well, my friend has a 1 year old and his friend just got a pit the same age as mine.

so now im sitting here thinking of a name for it. hes completely white, cocaine is white, so i thought about caine. just sounded kinda cool. any name ideas? idk, im gonna get high now and think.

a friend of mine works for a vet so im gonna take him in and get some shots in the next couple days. this should be fun, i love dogs and its been a long time since ive had one. ive just never had to train one before so this will be a challenge. his dad was huge from what i hear, so hes gonna bulk up nicely in the next year. :smile: like i said, ill put up some pics when i can, which should just be shortly.

Sweet. Get a wind up alarm clock to put with him at night. It calms them down because it reminds them of their mothers and siblings heart beat.

ooo i like that brown and black on ur dog, thats cool. all the other dogs from the litter were all white except for spots over the eyes that were brown or black. and there was one completely white female, looked exactly like mine but mine is a little heavier. fatter.

aww, he's cute. you should call him snout cause of the marks on his nose. raising a puppy is hard work, i got a lab/pointer mix at 4 months old, about the highest energy breed there is. pitbulls are up there too... be consistent with training and exercise, and be prepared for your patience to be pushed to the limit on a daily basis :smile:

Let him get to know you for a week or two before you even start to housebreak him.  At first, it's up to YOU to take him outside everytime he eats or drinks.  His metabolism is very fast, so if he drinks water, he'll pee within five minutes.  If you see his nose to the carpet sniffing, immediately take him outside until he poops.

Socialization is very important, so let him play with lots of other dogs so he won't grow up fighting and be a danger.  The same with kids.  Take him to the park every day and let all the little kids pet and play with him.  This is your best insurance against him mauling a kid someday.

Puppies need a lot of exercise to develop good muscle tone, so be sure to go for lots of walks and if you have mountains nearby, climbing is great for building strong hip muscles, and going downhill develops the muscles in the chest area. 

Get rawhide toys and don't allow him to chew anything but those, or he'll ruin the furniture.  If he's not interested in the rawhide toy, cook it in some chicken broth for an hour or two and he'll be all over it.

Have fun and give him lots of love.

Agreed on keeping that pink nose out of the sun.  Use #30 or better sunscreen on it.

my dogs toy is a rope about 1"round 12" long w/knots on the ends . loves to play tug-a-war also likes jersey gloves :shrug:

It is very importaint that you pay close attention to this dog. walk him a minimum of 15 minutes twice a day, and let him out every couple hours. They are very sensitive in their infancy up till 8 weeks. Make sure to baby him and never leave him alone more than 6 hours.

You can not use a pull toy with a puppy that small, it will rip out the teeth. wait till he is at least 8 months.

Caine is a cool name.
I have a female pitbull we rescued.  Pit bulls, to me, are the most affectionate dogs with a lot of good "human-like" characteristics.  They get a bad rep, but they're awesome dogs.
The socializing with pits is very important, because they can grow to be potentially dangerous.... more so to other animals in my opinion.
We, unfortunatley, didn't learn of this until later, but it's extremely important to not only socialize it with children and other people at a young age, but with other dogs aswell.  My dog is gentle as a kitten, never barks in the house, is excellent around new people, cuddles with you and shit, but once you bring another dog around her, she goes nuts.... so make sure you take that into consideration.
Make sure he gets a lot of excercise... if you confine a pit bull, they can become aggressive.
Like these assholes in Baltimore City that keep their pit bulls locked up in a cement enclosed cage all day, they develop what experts call "Cage Rage".
Go ahead and read as much as you can on the subject... we subscribe to a magazine called "bully breeds" which offers a lot of valuable information.

Old shoes works well with my dog, she doesn't mind that they are gross too. They last for a a long time because they are so durable and is a good way to reuse things rather than throw them away.
The store bought toys don't stand a chance against a dog larger than a shoe box.
