aminita muscaria saffron tea experiment
    #955817 - 10/12/02 09:06 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

the other day i went to pick some morning glory seeds at the old folks home, when i got there i found the plants were gone.
SO I RAIDED THE COMPOST HEAP HA!!!!
i got about a half cup of seeds from it. but thats not what this post is about
its about the big fat aminita muscaria i found.
it is of the formosa variation, red muscarias are unheard of here, but i beleive the red pigment is probably directly related to ibotenic acid / muscimol content.

so i peeled the outermust layer from the mushroom and gently removed anything red., then threw the rest away and allowed it to dry, i ended up with about 1 gram of dried orange skin.....
i then put a small pot on to heat up and dumped the skin in.
it quickly turned the water deep saffron, my GF pointed out that people pay good money for saffron tea from mushrooms.... if this works as a somatic beverage i will certainly market it.  i could sell aminita skins in teabags

the red ones would no doubt be better and richer in the goodstuff and lower in the bad.
so im gonna be a guinea pig, were headed out on the road and i hould be back later on tonight with an update of how this aminita saffron tea (im adding honey) will work. it tastes good. damn good tea.
my GF is a cullinaty chef and LOVES the mushrooms i pick (cullinary ) shes opening a reteraunt before too long and if this works, its on the menu  WA HA HA HA.

well.
variabilty abounds, no doubt this is evidenced by your approach.
evidence suggests that the method of prep and ingestion have tons to do with the experience.
fresh mushrooms raw seems to be the worst possible experience.
dried shrooms seem to produce a variety of effects, possibly due to incomplete drying or some other degradation over time.
my plan is to eat a few teaspoons cooked.  as in cooked, fresh mushrooms matter.
i picked a few buttons on the coast of oregon yesterday, and maybe i'll have the balls to have a taste with breakfast, but it sure gives me the willies.
by the way, mitch, where are you?  the red capped variety is rampant out west, especially the coast.  all the way up to alaska...mine are beautiful redhot perfect....and there are more.  if you cant get any, pm me.
good luck to all.  be careful experimenting.  i'll let you guys know if i eat mine.
peace.

I might try this but I've already prepared the ones I picked at the weekend in a way that they should be good to smoke. I've got some I bought online ages ago which are good to eat (and tasty) but no effects come from smoking. I think I've worked out why, and I'll post when they are ready to test

I cooked a half cup of fresh amnita in spagetti sauce. Now im guessing it was too high of a dose. I was feeling good for about 3 hours. Then after that i was in on the worst ride of my life. I had the most intense, unwanted bodyhigh/ache in my life. One of the few time I puked my brains out. That shit is not for me....................peace

definately not for every one.
i usualy air dry themuntil they lose about 60% of thier water then oven dry at about 200-230 untill crispy.
i could never see why anyone would dislike the taste, i think they taste very good.
