    #1217938 - 01/14/03 01:47 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

any myco experts?

i used to find aminita muscaria growing all over the forests in august and september but haven't seen any in two and a half years. we've been having major drought in the area.

will i ever see them again?
how do spores survive drought?

Where you at man?

Its funny, I have been seeing them more than any other mushroom in this area...It could be just because they are bright red with white warts, but...

Im sure they will come back after some rains...

I wouldn't worry too much about the Amanita muscarias. They will survive as mycorrhizal mycelium on the roots of the trees. The trees won't survive without their mycorrhizal partners (and vice versa), so as long as the forests they inhabit are still around the mushrooms will survive. They just won't fruit as much in drought years (and the trees won't produce as many seeds, and not as many seeds will germinate, etc).

Happy mushrooming!
