I have no agar. I just picked a MAMMOTH mushie and have the cap printed. I want to clone it. Without agar, whats the best way to do so?

You can,but there is the possibility of having many substrains due to spores maturing.I think you would be better off to excise a piece out of the stem if you want to isolate.

Try to get top center of cap then, not the outer layer that could be contam laden, but the inner part where there are little-no spores.

When i harvest my mushrooms,the stems are not dry.There is a cloning Tek on here somewhere that shows how to do it and why.There is also one,that shows how to clone on cardboard.I agree that viable spawn is produced with caps.

You can try using the cap. Take a scalpel, then cut a clean and rather thin slice off the very top (so you don't get into the gills. This piece is not what you'll be using) now quickly take another scalpel and cut out a tiny piece of the center of the mushroom's "opened skull" and bring it away from the rest of the cap and drop into your prepared LC.
I've seen Agaricus being cloned from a cap that way (but transferred to agar instead of an LC).

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

For how long have you had the cap sitting around making prints, if I may ask? Because besides the fact that the cap can be used, but really isn't ideal for what you are planning, you want to use tissue that's as fresh as possible.
Apart from that, I'd still try, because the worst thing that can happen is that you fail. If you DON'T try, then you will fail for sure, logically.

If you want to clone with LC, you will need a clean biopsy. I wouldn't use that cap. I'd pick a fruit with an unopened cap with gloves in hand and put it straight into a sterile ziplock bag inside the FC. Then carry the bag with the fruit from the FC to your glovebox or flowhood, in there wipe the stipe with isopropyl and take the biopsy following Creamcorn's LC cloning tek.

I've had great success with the method. My Amazon clones were potent as fuck.
