Melodic IDM albums that are as good or almost as good as boards of canada
    #9457629 -

some idm artists I know already are- Tycho, Aphex Twin, bt, squarepusher, auetchre

Does anyone know any albums that are close to as good as boards of canada albums?

I have not found an idm band that I can listen to close to as much as boards, cause they're so damn good and interesting.

There's gotta be some album I am missing out there.  Also the more melody the better. Not such a fan of glitchy IDM

Try Tipper, all his albums are excellent but Surrounded or Relish The Trough are his more chilled.

Also Flashbulb - Kirlian Selections is an absoloute masterpiece.

u-ziq

probably the closest thing to BOC that I know of. they have the same kind of pads and scapes as BOC does, like the soundtracks to those 70's and 80's made movies you had to watch in science classes in middle school, but with much more rigid beats that you would find from a group of snare players on acid playing around with complexes of rudiments.

also, a 23 peice symphonic group called alarm will sound picked like 20 songs from aphex twin and played them live as well as recorded an album.
given the symphonic textures it has a very BOC quality to it.

Not really like Boards of Canada but this is a favourite of mine. DnB IDM style.

I love IDM . Most music sticks to a similar style and mood, with IDM i got something for every mood.

Not really all that IDM but it does have some really good melodies and I guess you'll like this: Amon Tobin.

As for u-ziq... It's actually µ-ziq

anything from Sending Orbs record label, specially Kettel - My Dogan and Kettel - Myam James Part 1 and Secede - Tryshasla.

also Subheim - Approach

of course taste is taste, but i think Warp Records is over rated. They are sure classics, but classic doesn't necessarily means the best

Warp has gone indie :cuckoo:. I always though Squarepusher was pretty poor though anyhoo . Nice reccomendations there some stuff i haven't heard of.

Anyone heard Venetian Snares - Winter in the Belly of a Snake? That album is as experimental as it gets and brilliant aswell.

nice.. I've been wanting to see clark live..that must've been an amazing experience! The thing I love the most about his music is that the songs seem to morph and have a different sound or make me feel a different emotion every time I listen to them..sober or not. I'm listening to Pleen 1930s right now to get Clarence Park started..

Ah man, I can go oooon and oooon about good idm, here are some beautiful melodic albums (shouldn't be too hard to find)!

Artist - Album(s)
---------------
EU - Warm Math
Nikakoi - Shentimental (also check out their other album Sestritchka)
Bauri
Plaid!!!!!!! (whole discography)
Telefon Tel Aviv
Tim Koch aka Thug
World's End Girlfriend (some of the trippiest music I've heard)
Boulderdash
Multiplex
Cepia
Galaktlan -
Ilkae (also some of the trippiest music I've heard, especially Bring Extra Dragons)
L'usine

If anyone hasn't heard these artists or albums yet, I'd suggest writing em down! All ridiculously good. While I'm at it I'll list a few wicked tripping albums:

People Like Us  - Recyclopaedia Britannica (this chic is fucking weeeird! She's got a lot of good albums.)

Autechre - LP5 if you haven't heard that (or any of their albums really)

Bola - Kroungrine

Keep the recommendations comin!

Clark is brilliant, if i had to pick a favourite idm artist it would be Clark. His music is not overly complex (certaintly not lacking either though!) yet as original and creative as it gets. Isn't lord of the dance just the happiest song alive?

Yeah, definitely.. kinda makes me think of happy dancing robots in a thick jungle with painted aboriginal peoples. It also reminds me of super mario bros :smirk:
Empty the Bones of You, Early Mass and Umbilical hut are probably some of the chillest songs I've listened to in awhile after Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy..I absolutely love that song..
