would it be possible to substitute the verm in pf tek for a grain of some sort?  say rye, popcorn or wbs..  or would it not even be worth trying?

oh, what about oversaturated popcorn?  like strain for 10 mins instead of 30+ like you're supposed to?  worth a try?

man you can't substitute verm in BRF cakes. You can substitute the grain for other stuff but without the verm the texture and water retention will be fucked.

Though if there were anything that would work it would be course grade coir. Course coir may have an airy enough texture to work instead of verm. However I doubt it'd be better anyway.

ill try it then! xD  when i get to it..  i wonder.. can i steam sterilize the popcorn with BRF if i boil the corn, strain for 10, then straight into the mix and into the pot of boiling water?
probably not worth my time.. lol

I can't believe you have gone regular WBS spawn and these cakes and liked cakes better!

I did 4 quarts with LC and they were spawned to a monotub 2 weeks after inoculation.  So really you could have a monotub to harvest at around the same ammount of time as it would take start to finish with pf tek.

But if your talking about easyness, cakes are great.  I had extra WBS from the quarts, So i made a 1 pint WBS cake.  Colonized reallly fast.  Cant wait to fruit it.  Its in the fridge waiting for some cakes to finish.

Pics of the wbsf cake would be really cool

man thats all i use is WBSF for PF jars...I usually just case them...but I actually get better results from WBSF over BRF...in terms of total yield per cake. I also use WBS for my grain jars. WBS is cheap and works awesome for the price.

I'm trying soy flour.  It seems to be much more nutritious, at least according to the nutrition facts, though I have yet to see a soy flour cake successfully colonize on this board.  Mine seem to be working though.
