My Hand + Table Saw = Oxycodone (update 2 new pics on page 3)

This morning at work i was cutting up some cedar shakes and low and behold my fingers decided to fight with a blade of a table saw and wouldnt you know it, the stupid saw won.
So i went to the hospital and my two fingers got cut into the bone at the knuckle. And my thumb got cut but not as bad. So all they did was clean the wounds and stitch me up. On a later date they have to do surgery to remove the bone fragments and do micro surgery to reconnect nerves so i can have feeling in my fingers again.

Here's a pic of the injury, it looks better in the pic then it is in real life. if you want more pics i will post them but this one will get the message across.

you know it's kinda strange but I've been dealing with building
things since I was a little kid, from tree houses, helping the old
guy down the road put an addition on his house and all sorts of
other stuff, construction, furniture, what ever else I decide to
build... never once got cut by the table saw

Yea I am thinkin maybe you souldn't try and stop blades with your finger seems a bit counterproductive.:shocked:

I feel into the saw wile it was running cause I was on a snow covered cement floor.
I was using a push stick also

I have done carpentry full time for 4 years its not like it is a once in awhile thing.

I was talking to the rest of the crew and everyone besides 1 guy (out 0f 12) said they all have had a table saw injury within the first 10 years of their career and said I was on the better side seeing as it took me 10 years to finally do it. 5 of them cut their fingers clean off, so looking at all of that for comparison I am lucky.

Lucky you got cut so low down. The surgeon will only have one nerve to reconnect at each place.

The dad of this guy I know got cut just above the wrist and when they reattached the nerves, they had no way of knowing which went where so everything got crosswired.

So now when he thinks to move his index finger he actually moves his pinkie or when he pricks his middle finger he feels it in tha palm, things like that  :foreheadslap:

there are some times where it's just not safe to work, I believe
you've found one of those times and those guys are right, you're
pretty lucky, you still have the fingers, I've seen some
horrific accidents on job sites

Holy crap! How much is that going to cost you, like $40,000? My friend cut into his thumb just a little and it cost him 10 grand. Hope you have deep pockets dude. I've heard of like training surgeons that'll do your shit for cheap at a medical hospital, or medical trials for new painkillers where they'll do your shit without anesthesia. Good luck paying for all that. I feel bad for you.... much love your way, I hope it turns out alright.

you are right i should have been more aware of my surroundings.
you just get comfortable doing things especially when u do them all the time.
but when something like this happens, it makes you much more aware with what you're doing and what you're working with. so hopefully from now on i'll be more cautious.

previous poster asked about costing 40,000 but since i have no insurance the hospital is setting me up with a program called healthlink so it wont cost me a dime. :smile:

I appreciate everyones concern, it feels good knowing that people actaully care for others in this world. thank you

Watched a mate saw 2 fingers right off at the knuckle when he came to work with a hangover. The ironic part is a half an hour before he did it he ridiculed me for not going out the previous night. Told you so's were in plenty of order after the healing process; and new stricter policy at work.(Of course that was his own fault rather than a bad work environment)

Thankfully ya didn't loose em. Live and learn and safety first! :syringe::drooling:
