No but then I do a lot of outdoor work and don't want snake-ass.

It is dirty though and its impolite to your other people.  Have some table manners you dirty people.

i feel not the least bit compelled to indulge other people's warped sense of priorities.

licking one's fingers/plate/etc. is a sign of food [and by extension; the preparation of food] well appreciated.

i find it the height of rudeness when people take food i lovingly prepared, can not finish it, and scoop it into the trash, washing down the sink or feed it to the dog.

i've frequently had to tell people "god damnit! i don't cook dogfood!" if i make something so good i feel the dog just has to try it, ill serve her up some myself.

Why don't I lick my fingers? Allow me to sum it up...

Think about what you do during the day. 99% of everything you interact with touches your hands.

The same rule applies to everyone else.

MY HANDS are clean... the other thousands of hands that touch the same things I touch? Probably not.

I don't want people's shit in my mouth. :shrug:

If I JUST washed my hands, I'll lick them. But I make it a habit to NOT lick them normally.

I am also never sick.

Ill second that!  If I see people licking their fingers, its a sign to me that I cooked some good food!  Lets not forget where we came from, cavemen sitting around a fire sucking meat off the bone.  Its primal, it feels good, tastes good, and if you wash your hands before and after a meal like any normal person does, theres no heath risks at all.  Its a win-win!

i think the fine tradition of washing one's hands before meals has probably declined quite a bit.

as much as i usually feel people take things like sanitation too far [and are often misguided or even hypocritical about it], that's probably one that should stay.

i do, for all my carlin quoting, wash my hands scrupulously when preparing food for others, because i'm a chef and i owe it to the people who will eat it.

because i'm interested in palaeo-anthropology, primitive skills and such, i've dedicated much of my last 5 years education to being as well educated as your average neanderthal.
