New Orleans!!

Well... I couldn't stand living in that damn shelter another second, and just when I thought life couldn't get any darker, some light broke through the clouds in the form of a couple of punk hitch hikers I picked up at a gas station.

They asked me for a ride to Nashville, and I thought "why thew hell not?". So I picked up my shit, and headed out to Nashville with the baby, and my oldest son.

Well, it was COLD in Nashville, and sleeping in the van could have killed us. And though the hitch hikers were headed to Florida, we decided to head instead to New Orleans.

We are still living in the van, though there is a church that lets us park in front, and use their kitchen and bathroom everyday. And the scary looking hitch hikers sleep outside of it, which pretty much keeps us safe from the crackheads.

Some missionaries came by the other day, and filmed us for a documantary they are making about homelessness, and they asked me what I would like to have, they didn't have much to offer. I asked them for a digital camera since mine was sold by "friends" for blow back in MO.

I figure I'm a pretty good photographer, and I really want to get some photos of the street kids I run into, and general pictures of my journey. The other day I saw a midget with clown shoes on ride his bike in front of my van, and I thought what a priceless image that was, and wished I had my camera.

Anyhow, whether the photo endeavor makes me any money or not (I plan to try and sell my photos on Bourbon street), it will still be awesome to record my experiences here in this town of the weird.

On Christmas night, we went exploring in an abandoned building where some street kids we have met are squatting, and got up to the roof, where there was a huge plastic sheet laid out to keep from more water damage, and we sat looking over the Mississipi river from the tallest building in the french quarter, then slid down the plastic covered roof like a giant slide.

Some might criticize my lifestyle, in fact I am sure they will, but I have never felt my soul more at ease then these last few days.

These days it is my dream to simplify my lifestyle and live like a nomad.  Sounds like your having quite the adventure, but I wonder about the kids.

this is kind of fucked off. this person has 2 young kids and is picking up random strangers and walking around abandon building with people he/she has never met...

im not one to judge, but this person really needs to do something about these kids. stop living in a van down by the river and get a couple bull shit fast food jobs. live in a hotel until you can get on your feet. it might take some hard work and a bit of time, but it will be best for the kids in the long run.

there are also people out there who will be more then happy to help. not to mention government assistance.

fuck there are ass holes who drive fucking esclades with 24 inch rims, 2000.00 stereo systems, fucking 78" tvs that have food stamps, housing, and all that other shit that actual people in need never take advantage of.

you know, i think i've waited long enough to say i'm really critical of you happy hippies.  honestly you sound pretty messed up.

someone asks you what you need and you say a digital camera so you can indulge in art and future nostalgia?

if you work 20 hours a week (2 ten hour days? 5 four hour days?) at a minimum wage job you should be able to afford an apartment for you kids. 

honestly come on what are you doing?  do you have a complete and total lack of self control?
