No source of protien is cheaper per gram than walmarts whey protien.

15 dollars for 52 grams of protien per serving and it has 15 servings per container thats a dollar for 52 grams of protien which is eqivuilant to 97.5 eggs 6.5 in each serving.

I know you hippies dont like wallmart but this is the only thing I ever buy there.

It also delivers 6 grams of creatine per serving, it's pretty much nitro-tech only less than half the price.

the website i posted above beats that by far.  $3.70 for 448 grams.

yeah, I bought 5 lbs of whey isolate(90% pure by weight) for $60 from an online vendor.  I don't feel like doing math so I don't know if its cheaper or not, but i do know its a good deal.

If you really want to put on weight then get rid of the cardio. It burns up too many calories if you're trying to put on mass.

wrong.

as long as youre working out as much as you should be and eating the proper amounts of protein, keep up with the cardio. it will not negate mass production. AND it will help to build density, so you have tighter, leaner more efficient muscle.

That would be good advice for someone who is worried about losing mass whilst trying to drop body fat, the problem is that he has already expressed concern that he is underweight.

An underweight person trying to bulk up and doing cardio? If he is underweight he obviously isn't eating enough and will probably take some time to get used to eating larger amounts of food more often.

I would drop the cardio for a few weeks whilst you're increasing the amount of food you eat and then reintroduce the cardio. Aren't you a pretty small guy yourself anyway Lefty?

i was in swimming, track and wrestling throughout HS(and 3 years of weight lifting), plus kickboxing and tae kwon do, cardio was ALWAYS a big part of of our workouts.  trust me, i would personally know whether or not cardio hindered  muscle gain. i started out at 125lbs at 5'6 in 9th grade, by 12th i was 5'7.5 and 160lbs.  cardio didnt hinder anything. in fact i dont think i could have made the gains that i did without it.

just because youre underweight  doesnt mean you should just pack on pounds.  sure, if you want inflated useless mass and "pretty" muscle, then just lift and eat your protein.

and i suppose if hes having a hard time eating all that he needs to then he could postpone the cardio until he figures out the right eating and workout schedules, but i wouldnt cut it out for too long. 1-2 weeks tops.

im definately not what i was in and right after HS thats for sure, but i guess if you consider 5'7.5" @ 155lbs small then sure.  i consider myself short, not small.

Who doesn't put on weight between the ages of 15 and 18? I'd say a large part of your weight gain could be related more to natural growth rather than growth due to muscle stimulation. If you grew 1.5 inches and didn't manage to put on any weight then that would be cause for concern.

You can't credit cardiovascular exercise as the cause of your muscle growth. You can say with a lot more authority that the work your muscles were doing - that your cardiovascular system was supporting - whilst running, swimming and doing the rest of your physical activities had a large role in muscle growth.

Is this guy an athlete, is his cardio essential to keep in competitive shape?

In the end, if you are going from a low intake of protein and food in general and no weight training to caloric excess with weight training you will put on mass, whether you do cardio or not. It's up to you, but really I would leave the cardio out whilst bringing up your calories.

weight gain and muscular weight gain are two totally different things.  everyone gains weight in those years, but not muscle gain.  you only gain that through exercise.  i know a few people that havent gained a lb since freshman year of HS.

ive been studying and applying exercise for nearly 10 years.  listen or dont, its your choice.  but im telling you, cardio workouts alongside weight lifting and bodyweight exercises definately benefit muscle gain.

whether or not this guy is an athlete has nothing to do with what were talking about.  im assuming that the poster wants to gain muscle weight and not fat, while at the same time wants to stay healthy. if i am correct in that then he needs to exercise alot along with massive intake of food. unless of course he just wants to gain empty weight. in that case, he should just cram the food in.

When i say cardio i mean anaerobic stuff which i believe doesn't leave me with less muscle than i would if i did a shit-load of aerobic.
Anaerobic still burns fat but you can still retain muscle whereas aerobic burns fat and isn't good for building muscle.
Not sure if I'm completely correct on this, I'm still learning.

unless youre doing TREMENDOUS amounts of cardio, you will not lose muscle.  we burn and grow muscle every day, its called protein turnover.  but the simple solution to losing it even during extreme cardio workouts is to eat more protein to compensate for the extra loss.

look at MMA fighters, a large portion of their routines are cardio and stamina building.  cardio is an important part of a well balanced body and exercise regimin.  no matter how small, big, skinny or fat you are.

I was taught in physiology that your slow-oxidative fibres, those responsible for cardio, don't really grow.  They just become more efficient at transporting oxygen, you make more capillaries, more myoglobin to transport O2.  I was taught that the muscle fibres (cells) can actually become smaller from the workout.  Furthermore, Cardio makes your fast-glycolytic muscles smaller, so they are really opposing workouts.  You need to come to a balance between strength training and cardio, to your needs of course.

Ok my imput for protein choices:

Chlorella or Spirulina, they are each >60% protein, chlorella has very high RNA/DNA content, and all the rest is good fats, vitamins, minerals and detoxifying fibre and cell walls.  They also each have in 5g servings 100% of daily vitamin B12, and chlorella has >300% daily vitamin D as well.  They give you great power and endurance at the gym and are great for a pre or post workout smoothie.

They are great sources of protein and nutrients, but not too cheap.  If you compared the overall nutrients (which is much more important than just protein, for everything) then its a great deal.  Having such nutrient dense foods makes eating well a lot easier too.

you can safely do 45-60 mins of cardio a day on top of your strength exercises, so long as youre getting your nutritional requirements. without worry of catabolic muscle loss.

I'm not talking about catabolic loss, just the increased efficiency of slow-oxidative muscles will shrink their size, according to my professor.  Even though it may be smaller, its still better adapted to cardio

doing extra strength training would counteract that.

you would not believe the amounts of cardio i was doing for wrestling, swimming and especially track, but with all of the strength exercises i still bulked up by 25lbs in 4 years.  and it wasnt bulk either, it was dense, rock solid muscle.  the cardio helped it become so dense.

Yeah it is very minimal, and it will make you more dense for sure.  With some good weight training bulking up is easy even with cardio.
