my snake is being a pussy

I've never had a problem with my snake not feeding. It's been about a month and I last fed it a large rat. I threw another in there about a week and a half ago and the snake curled up every time the rat got close (ball python). So this stinky ass rat is just sitting in my bedroom annoying me in the middle of the night.

Anyone know anything that might be the cause? It could be that the last rat isn't fully digested but that just doesn't make any sense. But it must be true because the snake hasn't taken a massive shit yet so who knows.

But I've also heard that snakes might not eat due to infection.

The last thing I want to do is force-feed my snake.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I dont know much on the subject, but I did have a ball python when I was a kid and it was always too small (even as an adult) to feed rats.  we always fed it mice, but if rats are what you've always been feeding it, then i have no idea

That is very possible. This rat is definitely the biggest I've tried to feed it so far.

But that snake can get vicious. It snapped at my face once so I don't see why it would be afraid of it or anything. I know it can handle it.

Ball pythons are notorious for not eating. I'd check to see if it's skin is starting to get cloudy, might be trying to shed. If so, you my want to let it swim in a bucket of warm water. Just make sure the bucket's not soapy.

Another thing to look at would be make sure all your heating systems are working properly. Snakes love to stop eating when they get too cold.

Otherwise, it could just be not hungry. Well fed snakes can easily go a month without eating with no health problems.

Gumby is right, they're a temperamental breed. I had 4 of them and 2 red tails for a time. Don't worry though, they can go for several months with no ill effects. As long as he/she doesn't start dropping lots of weight, just keep offering. Eventually it should feed again when it's good and hungry.

If you don't want the no feed hassle, get some invertebrates. I had 30+ species of tarantulas and they ALWAYS eat.

I'm pretty sure I got rat at a Chinese restaurant once. It tasted nothing like chicken, even with all the sauce on it. Wasn't all that bad though.
