good/cheap sources of protien?
    #9442925 -

eggs, what else?

tried cottage cheese the other day, tastes like shit.

I'm looking for cheap sources of protien that i can eat a lot of and it won't make me sick or anything.

what's a good price for protien shakes?

I only weigh like 110-111 pounds or something, 5'4, i might be underweight but not sure.

Eggs and meat are good concentrated proteins, but I try to eat them sparingly.  I would recommend whole grains like quinoa (has a complete protein, rare for a grain) if you want some good protein with your carbs.

If you want to gain some weight, get fit, I recommend putting your attention to eating healthy, don't worry about how many grams of protein you can eat, just eat good foods.  Lots of raw fruits and veggies, good grains like quinoa, raw nuts and seeds.

I recommend Natural News for any health queries you might have, just search articles on the topic u want, lots of great resources.

Any shake with high protein? I used to drink the slim-fast ones with 20gs protein and 2gs sugar. That was before I realized that if your diet is balanced it's unnecessary.

I would recommend getting high quality protein.  I use a hemp protein powder in my shakes, it has Maca and E3 as well, but its not that cheap.  Its Ruth's hemp powder, and I found it very good.  I also would recommend Chlorella (single celled algae) and spirulina (aztec seaweed) they are both greater than 50% protein (lots of important RNA/DNA in chlorella too) with the other 50% being great nutrients important to good health/training.

I do high intensity strength training, a lots of cardio as well (finally snow, XC skiing FTW!) and get lots of my protein ,20-30 grams from these a day from these sources since I eat so much fruit for energy which has very little protein.  Otherwise If I'm feeling deficient eggs or sometimes some meat or fish.  I also love lots of broccoli with my salads.  I eat huge Salads which have 15-20grams of protein usually which is where I get another big amount of protein.  Then usually some nuts of seeds as well, but not too much because they are very slow to digest.

As I said before eating healthy is much more important.  I like to get my protein from non-meat source.  By doing so I must eat much more, 1lb of broccoli vs. a few ounces of chicken, but I also get a order of magnitude or more micro nutrients from the broccoli as opposed to the chicken, which is why I eat a pound of broccoli for protein instead of chicken.

its pricey all in one shot, but if you have the money to throw down up front, you can get whey protein for a good price in bulk.

http://www.buybulkwhey.com/

44lbs for $166.

which works out to $3.70 a pound.

If you workout then 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight is a minimum. Although during the winter when most bodybuilders bulk it's more, which is difficult for me personally to stuff my face when I don't feel like eating. Canned fish seem the most convenient to get that protein in. Also if you buy some whey protein look up some proteinbar recipes that use oats and make some, for on the go.

Tuna, sardines, and milk are all reasonable.

Back when I was a broke freshman in college I started working out and had a little post workout meal I would eat, a sort of poor mans body building meal.

Get two cans of tuna (15g protein & ~$.50 each)
Mix it with like 3 heaping spoonfuls of mayonnaise and like a tsp of garlic salt. Put that between 2 slices of bread + a slice of cheese and put that in a toaster over (if you have one or else eat untoasted)

To drink I would make a protein shake using the stuff from wal-mart (2x scoop =50g, ~$12 for a 2 gal tub)

Total of about ~85g protein.

yeah, I say whey protein isolates are the way to go.  I don't think there is a purer source of protein available.

You must spend a TON of money on food.

I would love to eat a diverse diet but my wallet kind of restricts me.

Yeah pulses are the way forward. Beans, lentils; learn how to cook chilli and dhal, they're both insanely easy and very very tasty. Eat both with brown rice and thats seriously good body food.

No source of protien is cheaper per gram than walmarts whey protien.

15 dollars for 52 grams of protien per serving and it has 15 servings per container thats a dollar for 52 grams of protien which is eqivuilant to 97.5 eggs 6.5 in each serving.

I know you hippies dont like wallmart but this is the only thing I ever buy there.

It also delivers 6 grams of creatine per serving, it's pretty much nitro-tech only less than half the price.

BTW if you are trying to gain weight remember your body has priorities.

First your cells need to satisfy there need for ATP if you dont have enough sugar or fat for them to use they will take the amino acids in the protien and use them.
What that means is the protien will not make it to your muscles but instead be consumed by your cells.

Not only do sugar and carbs satisfy your cells need for ATP they also raise insulin levels which increase testosterone and assist in transporting more protien to your muscles.

If you consume fats eat healthy ones like those found in olive oil, Unsaturated fats (not solid at room temp) plus olive oil contains omega essential fatty acids which assist in healthy heart and brain functioning.

Good luck I have put on 15 pounds in a month and a half from eating like this and I have a very malleable and fast metabolism.
