Cool mist monotub?
    #9422005 -

I tried hopelessly to get my first grow going this summer and failed miserably (contamination problems).  I believe I have narrowed down the cause and am going for my second attempt after the new year.  Just gathering ideas, planning my next attempt for now.

Anyone ever tried pumping a coolmist directly into a monotub?  It may not be neccessary but it would aid it FAE and keeping rH up so I figure, why not?  Could it hurt?

I don't have the link on hand but I saw a growlog someone posted where they were getting ridiculous amounts of shrooms by pumping a coolmist into a monotub, like 8oz dry on the first flush from a 105qt tub.

Also thinking of doing the same thing shotgun FC style, instead of the perlite layer.

Totally, that is a really good idea. I am planning on doing the same thing on my next grow if(when) that happens. Just hook up a hose to a humidifier/fan system and connect it straight into your tub. You could also attach a timer.

This guy, Akira, did.

Read all about it.

Thanks, bookmarked!

Should I worry about condensation build-up? I don't want to discover a half-inch of water on top of the surface of my monotub or my PF cakes sitting in a puddle of water.

I like to line the walls of my tub with a trash bag so that doesn't happen.

I'm sure putting the humidifier on a timer would help with this issue also.

Something like 12hours on/ 12 hours off?  If I am using a coolmist in a shotgun FC with PF cakes, would evelvating them on some sort of grate be advisable?

With a monotub, should I just line it with a trash bag and maybe put a removable plug in a bottom corner so I can drain condensed water as needed?

Im always a fan of

KISS

Keep It Simple Stupid

Humidifiers are not required and not recomended for terrariums.

A monotub does not need a humidifier. The substrate and casing layer if used provide RH.

In terrariums perlite works well.

Manual fanning and misting are always preffered against trying to automate, which can end in either low rh or water every where. And is something that can brake.

Ive even seen somone use perlite in a greenhouse with good results. though that is when you can start thinking about using a humidifier - for marthas and greenhouse.

A cool mister in a monotub just seems like a waste of money and time. However I can see how it would work great if you used correctly. If you really want to bump the RH up you could always mist too. Also if you don't keep that sucker clean bacteria and other molds develop real quick. You could contaminate a tub really fast if you don't watch what you're doing.

That seems really long to me. My humidifier bumps my room's RH (its a big room too) to 60-70 range if I leave it running for 12 hours.

I bet if you cycled it on and off every couple of mins you'd be fine (i.e. 30 mins on 30 mins off) you might have to do some trial and error on that thought!

It does work.. its great for FAE too.... THe more Fae you have the less you have to worry about contams.... another thing it helps with.... the flush... because when you initiate pinning you turn on your humidifier and your light at the same time.... that way sending a message to the shrooms to fruit.

The only time you should open your tub is when your putting on casing layers too..

timers are essential.... use a timer that has 24 on and off... 10 hrs on  mixed through out the day..... 14 off

i would also look for a timer for the light .... fully automated:evil:

Are you using cakes? I had catastrophic failure the first time around (24 jars TOAST). After some pondering I noticed the contams broke out all over the jars not at the inoculation points so next time around I added more water to the tub and boiled the jars on high the whole time instead of getting the tub to boil then dialing it down alittle. Since then I had no more problems.

Moral of the story, get a PC or make sure you REALLY boil your jars. Follow the rest of the tek and you should be fine.

what if i want to put my tubs stacked up in a closet out of sight ? you cant provide proper FAE when the tubs are stacked against a wall

I'm going to be doing this exact thing.  My plan (start purchase/construction tomorrow) is to stack 4 50 gallon rubbermaids in 2 columns and plumb a single cool mist humidifier into a 4 way splitter to keep plenty of FAE and rH because they'll be stacked right up against the wall.

I'll make sure to post some pics of construction and my first bulk grow, should be fun

Sounds good to me, I absolutely hate perlite.  Waaaaay too messy for me.  I'd much rather spend the extra cash and set up an automated system, or at least spring for some hydroton (available at any hydroponic shop).

Neither of which will perform as well as damp perlite.

Monotubs generaly dont provide that much FAE to begin with. Pofyfill doesnt really allow FAE like we would prefer. It allows gasses to pass in and out. Its more than gas exchange but not quite fresh air exchange. It most circumstances it works fine for cubes but when you get a strain thats particularly co2 intolerent manual fanning may be needed,.

Some people do run oscilating fans in the room with monotubs to help circulate air.

Never disagreed with perlite's performance, It's just worth it to me not to deal with the mess that comes with it.
