Can cakes recieve overlay?

A friend had some cakes that looked like they were about to pin. (forming Hyp. knots)

Then it seemed like the Mycellium grew over the knots.

I know overlay has to do with casing but is there a term for this with cakes?

You sure maybe you just had a humidity problem and they werent fruiting properly?!

Ive never heard of this although my cake experience isnt that great...............

I despise of em. :shocked:
