Help with my cakes please!

Hi guys, my substrate is in the middle of colonising, some of my pots are fully colonised and others are nearly fully there but need another week or two. I want to start fruiting them all at the same time if possible. However one of my pots I have pins starting to form. My question is if I can keep the fully colonised pinning substrate in the jar until the other jars are ready?

No, that needs to be fruited now. Remove the pin, eat it, dunk and roll.
Here's some really nice threads you should read on PF tek. General guide. Dunk 'n Roll. Bottom-watering.

Yeah if the jar is pinning that means the mycelium feels the time is rignt.
If you're using a shotgun fruiting chamber and it's not packed with cakes remember to mist often. Surface conditions are everything when it comes to pinning.

Says who?
Perhaps for 'best' results, it should be fanned with the lid whenever you mist, but the fact is, I and many other people who work long hours have left them unattended and had excellent results. I've left a shotgun terrarium full of fruiting cakes closed up for over 24 hours, and the CO2 level has never exceeded 1000 ppm. RR

Not to be a dick or anything...but thats what i got bud. Even with the SGFC built to his specs, it still needs to be fanned multiple times a day for sufficient FAE. Thats my dilema. Im not trying to find out how to build a proper FC.
A quick search will reveal that when I designed the shotgun terrarium I was working 12 hour shifts, an hour drive from home. This resulted in being gone 14 hours per day, with no way to perform fanning or misting.
A double outlet 100 gallon aquarium pump in a shotgun terrarium will result in about ten percent of the air exchange you would get naturally, plus destroy the flow of air up through the perlite, causing all sorts of problems.
Hollow stems and poor potency are not FAE or humidity related, so instead of fixing what isn't broken, lower the temp to prevent hollow stems and isolate proper genetics to get the potency you desire. You will never get consistent potency when growing from spores. Every grow is like a roll of the dice. RR

RogerRabbit said: The shotgun terrarium already is automatic. It works based on natural circulation patterns, where air travels from areas of high pressure to low. I designed it when I was working 12 hour days, with an hour of travel time and couldn't be there for 14 hours per day, and still needed to sleep during that off time.
You mist to make up for substrate moisture lost due to the automatic fresh air exchange, which happens even at 99% humidity. There is no free ride. If you put an airstone and bubbler in the terrarium, the slight positive pressure that is created screws up the operation, destroying the entire principle that makes it work. RR

RogerRabbit said: You should never run a fan near a shotgun terrarium. When I designed the shotgun, I was working 12 hour days, often for 7 days per week and needed something that could go for 14 hours each day while I was gone and take care of itself. When I wasn't working, I wanted to be hiking or camping, etc., but not staying around home all the time. If you set up a fan or otherwise try to 'automate' the system which is designed to be self sufficient, you'll dry out your substrates and ruin them. Follow the tek to the letter and you'll be fine while gone to work. That's the purpose of a shotgun terrarium. It's as close to maintenance free as you can get. Put your 6500K lights on a 12/12 timer and mist mornings and evenings. RR

Sorry I didn’t mean will they be ok me leaving them in a SGFC till tomorrow, I meant will they be ok to sit in the jar until I have time to properly sort them out for fruiting tomorrow! Should have made that clear

I used a shotgun fruiting chamber. I made one out of a 105 quart sterilite tub. I built to spec like in rr's video and I first birthed 2 lonely cakes in that giant chamber after dunking.
The cakes dried out and turned blue within days. But slowly, the more cakes I added, the less and less dry they got. It's a container with substrate in it. The more substrate you pack in the less it dries out. The perlite would always seem to be completely dry the next day too.
They work well when there are a fuck ton of cakes but when you have 1 or 2 in a giant chamber the cakes will dry out. I Don't care what RR says in this case. I doubt he ever tried to fruit a single cake completely in a 66 qt chamber.
I fucking hate shotgun fruiting chambers. Unfortunately there just isn't a lot of better options for small grows.

I would also like to remind you that we see people here almost every day with blue cakes in shotgun fruiting chambers. If they are so fucking set and forget then why do we constantly see people with dried out cakes on the boards?

So I’m confused now, People saying it’s ready for fruiting now? Or do I leave it to consolidate?
Are you guys Also saying that me trying to fruit the one cake is going to kill it? I’ve spent so much time attempting to cultivate this is my third attempt and I don’t want it to fuck up again.

If they are pinning don't wait. If they are not. Wait.
