Uncased yes...People often misuse the terms bulk substrate and casing. I think you are referring to the substrate layer.

Mainly what a casing does is create a micro climate. If your climate inside of the FC is correct there isn't much of a need for it with Cubensis.

I fruited coir/wbs uncased in this thread:

And even after unwittingly trying my best to sabotage  the grow time and time again, it still came out with beautiful fruits (scroll to the bottom for pictures). I get the impression that casing layers are for when you can't maintain humidity artificially.

I'm not talking about spawning wbs to bulk...

What i'm saying is wbs performs poorly by itself, as in; you take a colonized jar of wbs, dunk it, and put it in your fc.

I've seen nothing but horrible pinsets on wbs alone, IMO, it needs to be spawned to bulk, or cased... Or even ground into a flour and used PF-style... But not alone.

I thought we were talking about uncased. WBS fruited alone is uncased, but spawning to bulk is also uncased.

Hey wow HC, thanks for that. That's a spectacular result.

Just need to make sure I have wax paper on the bottom after colonization (to flip it onto instead of verm and perlite) and inject 20 cc's of water a day or so after pinning.

Lothario, just curious about your methods as I am going for a similar Martha setup...

How do you manage FAE/Humidity with your martha rig, what do you use?

Hey Thanks for the responses guys! Was out getting some more coir for my next batch.

So to answer some questions...

1) They are Treasure Coast cloned from a multi-spore. Inspiration from Oatman.

2) The dehydrator on the right is a nesco FD-61, one on the left is a nesco FD-50 but the trays (not as good as it should be)come from old broken down FD-39's(stay away from those)

3)HippieChick, always cool to get props from a hero. You're the reason I go uncased!

4) About ten tablespoons of spent coffee per brick. My coffee pot makes ten cups

5) As far as my setup, I took a little from everybody else. There's nothing original here except for possibly the kitty liners in my sweater boxes.

-An indoor greenhouse on top of a washing machine drip tray on top of a wooden platform.
-I have a coolmist inside on the bottom shelf and an ultrasonic outside piped into the top in the back.
-Both of the humidifiers are plugged into a cycle-timer at about 2 minutes on and 1 off.
-The zipper door stays zipped down to the third shelf so the coolmist can suck in fresh air, sort-of. (I do open it completely at least once a day to let it breathe.)
-I also pour out excess water when it pools on top of the substrate.
-It's basically near 100% humidity at all times

Uncased is the way to go for sure. Let's start a no casing revolution!

You are absolutely right! It's taken a long time to get to this point. At least a year of consistent growing. I've had many many losses and victory's. Believe me I'm still a noob.

I credit mainly Magash's rye tek, Helltick's Greenhouse guide, Oatman2000's Spawning to coir tek, HippieChick's tweaks, Agar (aka SixTango) the pioneer, Tahoe's LC advice, and of course the ever present mighty RR. There are countless others too many to name... These guys blazed the way all I had to do was follow directions.

As for humidity, A coolmist inside the greenhouse an Ultrasonic piped in, both on a cycle timer 2 min on 1 off. My next one would have a fogger inside the coolmist to eliminate unnecessary piping and equipment per HC.

It can literally be as easy as baking a cake. Still air glove box will eliminate contaminations if your not completely retarded while using one. All that is needed besides sterility (which can be achieved for 10 dollars very easily) is being able to follow instructions. Trust me, from experience, it is that easy.

wow, awesome job bro. i have a few questions for you. what kind of humidifiers are you using with your martha, i noticed from the picture two, cool mist and ultrasonic i'm assuming. and with lighting, are you using just the top light? once again great job.

Yeah, And I had a question, How are those bags on there? is the substate sitting on top? or, do you have like plastic covers over each one? (Its hard to tell from the pic)

Those are just kitty litter liners. I use them to make clean-up easier. I put a liner in the box, mix up the substrate, and top it off with some aluminum foil that has holes covered with micropore tape to colonize.

hmm, you've given me some ideas like small Tupperware containers verses aluminum Turkey pans and im going to popse this question here i was thinking about trying to populate an area near me with cubensins with my spent substrates and hay i was wondering if this would be possible

I think most NooBs read the instructions once, and then extrapolate to the point of failure.Cubes are as easy as following a proven tek or as hard as knowing it all.
