minimun fruiting temps for oyster?? * 1

ok I remember reading a post when RR says mid 40's is a good fruiting temp for oysters, but what is the minimum temps they can fruit in?? I have two small tupperware containers filled oyster mycelium on coffee grounds and I am pretty sure they are ready to fruit, outside right now is 53 F. The minimum at night is around 32F. Too cold?? any info would help!!! Thanks!

It will take a while for them to fruit at that temp. It is ideal to initiate the pinset, but fruit development will be delayed.

It is strain dependent, but general guideline for non-hi-temp strains (most cases) of P. ostreatus is 50-60F for primordia formation and 60-70F for fruiting. They fruit fine at room temp (74F) for me.

Only blue oysters like temps down at 45-55.  Pink oysters want temps over 70-75 even up past 90f.  Most the others do well at 60-70f.

Pleurotus ostreatus prefers temps in the upper 30's to around 60F.  If you fruit them too warm, they grow really fast, but the caps don't produce much meat at all.  If your temps are 30's at night and 50's day, it's perfect.  Those are the exact temps I grew this laundry basket at.
