Dont mean to go off topic, but the heroin one was better IMO. There were some pretty epic scenes.

As per the marijuana one, it did a good job of not being biased. Some of the people in Emery's place just perpetuate pot stereotypes, which sucks for the movement. Im seriously considering attending a pro-mj protest sharply dressed in a suit and pass out flyers to people.

It was pretty interesting to see the cops saying they didn't really care about the marijuana in the forests as much as they cared about the environmental damage it was doing, and the DEA agent saying they only look to stop the illegal market.

My tv is always on NatGeo, Discovery, or History channels. If it's an educational channel I'm watching it.

Me too man. I found it interesting how they said at the beginning of the pot documentary that marijuana is placed in the same drug class as heroin, then they ran the heroin documentary. Quite a contrast there.

Wow, i didnt even catch that! does anyone else think they showed the california medicinal mj thing as a scam? They showed the woman who had leukemia, then they showed a guy saying "yeah, i hurt my finger a few years ago..."

I always had a problem with the stoners at my university frauding the medicinal mj system to get legal and good weed. It just hurt the cause of people who actually DO need it.

Everyday nonsmoking people like drugs that users look like everyday nonsmoking people.  All the advocates seemed constantly stoned, like it consumed their lives.  The only guy I really liked was the guy from the middle east.  He didn't seem like he just wanted to get high.  It looked like he wanted to purify the active chemicals and prescribe weighted doses that create the same effects per application.

It certainly was less accusing than a lot of other mainstream media though.

Agreed.

There were a lot more things that could have been said in favor of marijuana.

Wasn't nearly as good as i was hoping for

I watched the Herion and Meth ones too though I had seen them before. They are interesting at least.

I wonder how many Shroomerites were featured? I remember seeing a couple of popular ones on the dateline Salvia bit. lol

That Nat Geo Marijuana one is repeating right now BTW.

I like how in the end of the video she asked what you would do if someone handed you seeds that could feed the hungry, make rope, make cloths, medicate, intoxicate, ect.. what would you do? Would you use them, or would you hide them away? lol nice.

I was thoroughly impressed to see a legitimate media outlet broadcast something that wasn't complete and total bullshit. Where as the people on this website probably already knew most of the info that was shown, it's nice to think that (hopefully) a bunch of curious non-users were tuned in being educated.

other than emery I didnt really think the advocates came off like that . I think it's the most positive piece on marijuana in america in a long time, especially from a reputable source like NatGeo. I think its a good step forward.

It doesn't mater how they came off.  Nonsmokers, the people that mater in a vote for legalization, don't care about what the person says, they care about what they look like (sounds like bull shit , but its true in everyone. Visual representation is stronger than any auditory representation).  If they think that the people that are pushing strongest for legalization look like addicts then they will think that light, moderate, heavy, or any user is a bad user.

This is the first time I've ever used this term on this forum but most people are sheep (aka: sheeple).  If they see it they believe it/follow it.  If they look like an addict, then they are an addict.

I feel wrong for using 'sheeple'.  Not only is it not a word, but it is something that everyone should not be.

While I agree that they could have chosen better representatives of the mj movement (read: less stereotypical potheads) to showcase in their documentary, I applaud them for being as unbiased in either direction as they were.

Had it been a one sided argument in either direction, the documentary would have had zero credibility. All in all they did a nice job of covering both sides of the debate, including the somewhat extreme nature of each side of the coin.

Just think, if it'd been an hour long pro-marijuana documentary, it'd have stood a much larger chance of turning away non-users as they would feel as if their interests (read: fears) were neglected in the report. At least the way it was done, perhaps they'll see that what they are afraid of is not really that bad. And then just maybe a few of them, while watching with an open mind,  will be swayed from their current points of view once they see the potential for good that this plant possesses.
