Dunking before spawning into dung

Should I dunk my cakes before spawning them into dung, this is my first run with dung and using it as a bulk substrate. Would I just crumble and case afterwards or split the cakes in halve or thirds. I plan on casing with verm,peat,etc afterwards.

the dung should have sufficient amounts of water to rehydrate you spawn.

right..  Just make sure you squeeze out as much water as possible from the dung.  Too much water in the dung will significantly stall colonization, if it even colonizes at all..

That pretty much is one of the most important mistake you can make with dung - too much water.

I agree on that 100% and so do the 19 pint jars of millet that went down the drain on a friends attempt in the past :mad:

Hey big d so what you are saying is do not dunk my cakes, the dung will be sufficient enough to keep the cakes moist. I'm confused

ok look the way it works is you are supplying an entirely new nutrient base for the myceloum to work with.
Sort of like say adding more rice to your brf jars.
Naturally you are spawning the cake into well prepared well hydrated poo.
So the small amount of spawn becomes irrelevant because your substrate changes to a majority of poo if you understand that.

I actually paid to go to high school. I understand its not necessary to dunk them when spawnning into a bigger substrate. Thanks D you rock
