The top one looks good. Don't expect rhizomorphic mycelium until after the first transfer to a fresh plate. It generally develops later. The lower plate looks like only a single spore has germinated and probably won't fruit.

Eh thanks Workman, I was a little concerned. I have only heavily cultivated a mexican strain before that exhibited a rhizo on the first shot. I'll take a choice wedge of the best of those five and go from there.

When a single spore germinates doesn't that mean that only one hyphal strand would exist?I think that both plates look fine as long as you succesfully make your transfers. Don't attempt to use your first plate for innocs. Transfer sections to many new plates as soon as 3/4 colonized. Wait until you see linear rizho growth and then innoc your medium. Good luck Hey Workman, I am sure you know what your talking abt. My opinion is that the second is multispore otherwise it wouldn't be expanding radially. Hmm Burp

Single spore germinations expand radially but they tend to be faint and whispy and never rhizomorphic. It may well be multispore, but the growth is so perfectly circular that I suspect it indicates the site of a single spore's growth.

Thanx for the help guys. I took 5 wedges from the top plate and transfered them to new dishes. From there I hope I will get some nice rhyzo growth and then I can select my strain based on vigour etc. Will update soon with pics.
