1.It's illegal to grow hemp now, but if it were not it's be far FAR more proffitable then tobacco, since most of the plant is usable.

2.The ones that are not payed off and have our country's best intrest at hart, the people who wouldn't swear under oath that tobacco is safe as some scientists did, the people who don't try to be edgy by saying idiotic things like "climate change is a myth" and "greenhouse gasses are not effecting climate change". The right wing, free market ideologies lead to the big getting bigger untill all the little fish in the pond are eaten.

3.Spying on your own citizens, unreazonable searches, and locking up people without Habieus Corpus is, and we do those, but what I mentioned is not unconstitutional as far as I know; to socialize some things, especially if it is for the good of all, would be good. The Green industry and inventions is one thing that needs to be studied by the government like we do with missiles; the Green Manhattan Project. For a while people looked toward socialism during the 30's.

Since when do economists talk about the healthiness of tobacco or the legitimacy of climate change?

Real economists believe in the market economy, because in one degree or another, that's all that works in a large-scale society. Even your most socialist states rest on a foundation of capitalism.

ah shit i was like 4 posts too late for this to make sense.

hmm.. perhaps we could try an economy where buying and selling anything is illegal.

it seems to work okay for illegal drugs.

how don't they?

they have people who grow the coca, they have people who produce the product, they sell the product, and they have competition. there's even more competition when it comes to smaller dealers, they all have the same price, maybe a little cheaper, but a shittier product perhaps.

in fact, drug dealers have even more competition than corporations, drug dealers are true capitalists.

if you want another example, look at the marijuana trade.

It was a metaphor.
Believing strongly in the free market doesn't make you a "real" economist, 4+ years of collage on economics does. There are Lessie-fair and Socialist economists.
I'm not saying destroy all capitalism, reign in control of the necessities, strictly regulate others (the ones that sell commodities) that pollute and whatnot, but in the end it doesn't matter because none of it is sustainable! Even metal will run out at some point.

The corporations COULD invest in a cleaner energy generation method, the fact of the matter is that they DON'T. They're ripping our planet to shreds because of greed and profit.

I just don't buy into this logic... what corporations do you expect to invest in this clean energy methods?  They are running a business, they are trying to make money.  That is not necessarily a bad thing.  All companies exist to make money, so people can provide for themselves.

There are a few corporations who we would expect to invest in alternative energies.  But they are very limited.  Like Exxon-Mobile would be a good example.  And they do invest in alternative energies, but certainly not to the extent that they should.  And yes, there are a lot of motives that cause that.  For one, they are operating a very profitable business, and creating new opportunities in energy is not as important to them as maintaining an important role in energy production.  They don't want to get behind the times, but it hurts their bottom line to invest a ton of money and move forward into a different business model.

Yes, if I was running Exxon, I would love to spend all (ALL!) their money on clean energy alternatives.  Sadly, I do not.  But you wouldn't go up to an herbal remedy shop and tell them to spend their money on real pharmaceutical products that actually can cure cancer (but it's the future of medicine you cry!)  You can't go into a movie theater and tell them to invest in interactive multimedia experiences, when they make a killing using technologies that already exist.  In the past, invention can come cheap and with an immediate benefits, but that is just not going to be the case with clean energy.  Cheap alternatives exist.  Clean energy cannot be produced on the scale needed without a huge investment, and it will not be as cheap as what we have now for a long time to come.

This is terrible for the future of clean energy.  New innovations cannot be brought to market and compete against what is already out there.  Exxon knows this and that is why they won't spend all their money making it happen, and it is foolish and naive to expect them to be so altruistic that they would just do it anyway.  Just as it is naive to think that smart consumers will somehow create the market for clean energy.  The people are as much to blame as the corporations for this situation, and no brain washing is needed, just enough apathy and them being conscience of their own budget.  Let me say that again... people are as much to blame for this as Exxon, because they are holding on to their money also, and yes it is naive to expect them to do otherwise.

That is why the only real solution to this comes by having government level the playing field for alternative energy.  The Bush administration failed gloriously on that front, so I feel like blaming government is the best, most accurate reflection of what is going on in that market.  While you are saying corporations (a term I still think you are using way to generally to have meaning) are ripping our planet to shreds on greed, I see the same behavior in consumers and it is not evil at play here.  It's just people doing what is best for them, and so sometimes you need to make it so what is best for the individual is best for the world at large.  You want to blame corporations for the actions of men, when the same behavior is present from the top down whether or not a corporation is involved at all.

You kill it. Government = Corporations

I'm not going to read this thread, because its most likely filled with hippie bullshit to the highest degree. I will tell you this though. Corporations are not what you perceive  them to be. A corporation is just a fucking file folder tucked away in a law office somewhere.

You don't have to own some giant business to have a corporation.

I own a corporation, and I use my corporation to avoid taxes, that you foolish sheep love to pay. All my expenses are pre tax, that way when it comes time to tax me, there isn't shit to tax.

Stupid poor, and middle class people pay taxes out the ass, and work for 5 months of the year just to pay their taxes. Its not our fault you are poorly educated on taxes and how business and corporations work. You are the ones selling your self short. Not us. We are simply smarter than you, and a head of the game. You sit around and bitch, while we get richer because we use these loop holes to our advantage.

Corporations help sway gov decisions yes, but they do not control the country. Believe your propagandist bullshit if you like, but you have the same power as the corporations, yet you sit helpless and bitch and moan about corporations instead of educating your self. So yes, I as a corporation step on your ignorant ass, and use the laws to my advantage, the same laws you ignore, or refuse to learn, because its "too much work" or "too hard".

Poor people are hilarious

I'll admot you have a good idea. Though, if they are pre-taxed then doesn't that mean you pay the taxes then?
You truely underestimate the giant corporation. Though, you have no right to condesend to us "poor people" you snotty cunt. Corporations have lobbies and money, and they pay our media to show their stuff. They are so tied in, they have great power you don't know.
Once again, you are a snotty ass cunt bag.

Typical poor person response. "I'm uneducated and I despise you because you're smarter than me" thats all i'm hearing you say.

Yes I pay taxes after all my EXPENSES, expenses are fucking everything! Poor and middle class pay taxes, then they pay expenses. I pay expenses and get taxed on what is left over, which is nothing compared to what you pay. I expense everything, food, gass, my car, my clothing, my electric bill, my water bill, my rent, everything is business, and when it comes time to actually pay taxes, im paying far less than the poor and middle class.

Money rules the world, not corporations you fool. People with money are smart and use corporations as a tool to stay rich by avoiding taxes. Get over the whole corporations rule us idea, its much simpler than that.

actually i'm poor and i pay no taxes, because they don't tax the poor.

also, i think its weird that you would sterotype these beliefs as poor person beliefs, since studies show poor people have the same feelings about corporations and the economy as rich people.  these are middle class beliefs, not poor person beliefs.

I've given all my reasons, and there is a documentary on Corperations.

Really, if that is all you get from me then you are a dumb ass, and god what a snob. Mopney only rules the world in a certain way, there are things more important. Money is a concrete thing with abstract value created as an evolution of the bartering system, it really isn't real. Also, I'm not poor, get over yourself.

edit-I find that odd that the poor and ritch are both rather happy with corperations. I think it's just because most poor are uneducated and uninformed and sucked in by society and its rather damaging values.

poor and middle class people are the same people. They live all their lifes paying off debt they created by spending their money poorly. Then they expect the rich to take care of their bad habbits, because they are uneducated fools.

Wealthy people spend their lives buying assets, and then letting their assets pay for their liabilities. For example, instead of running off and buying a house, I used my savings in investments, once those investments paid them selfs off and brought me a steady income, then I purchased a home. I wanted a nice car after I bought my home. Did I run off and get stuck in a loan that would cost me tons in interest? Nope. I took my savings and bought more assets, and when those assets paid off, i used the profit to buy my car.

Poor and middle class do the opposite because the are financially ignorant.  Poor people spend their lives buying liabilities such as houses and cars, and nice things with out first obtaining assets to provide them a steady income. This equals debt. This is ignorant

Rich people form corporations, and invest their money first in assets, then they TRULY afford nice things, they aren't nigger rich like middle class people.

I spent my time and money investing at an early age, that way I can afford things. Middle class and poor people only have one source of income. Their job. I don't work for a living, I have money work for me. My assets pay my bills, not some shitty carrier. I hire middle class people, because they are so far up their ass in debt they HAVE to work. They are financial ignorant slaves, and they are good for business. They work so I don't have too.

God kimbo, I hope you are sarcastic. If he were at my house I'd bust his nose. Pompis ass. Sometimes life doesn't turn out well. Making something outa nothing takes risk, and some of us "po' folk" as you think we are, can't risk it.

And on the flip side of your ass-holery, you have an idea. I'll look into investing. I don't need alot, and it may be a good idea so I can afford salvia^^

no i wasn't being sarcastic, he was very on point about certain things.

granted, he's is on a different wavelength and not even discussing the same thing as us, i doubt his corporation is massively dumping chemical waste or whatever.

its still an interesting message about personal responsibility and the weakness of humanity.

it takes money to make money, some people don't have rich mommies and daddies to help them pay for assets or invest in business', many people have to live the slave wage life or else they die, they can't save up enough to buy assets or invest in stocks because they're getting paid shit wage, further, investing involves risk, the average joe cannot afford to take such risks, or else they risk the chance of some mother fucking douche bag ceo stealing their money or going into debt.

here's another fact: blacks or latinos earn less than white people by approximately 10k less, 20k for women in comparison to men. there's blatant discrimination when it comes to wages. and in addition to the dissolution to many worker's unions that i posted about earlier.

yes, make the people work for you, steal their money for your benefit, we'll see who gets the last laugh when the proletariat are tired of being slaves.

talking to the wrong person, i get by on about 4-5k a year OR LESS, and have for the past... 7 years more or less.  ergo, if i had some motivation and worked a fulltime minimum wage job instead of doing nothing i'd have about 5-6k a year more i could be saving.  times 7 years of doing nothing and i could have saved almost 40k, which is decent startup capital.

i'd be amazed if you knew anyone poorer than me who doesn't receive outside assistance.
