They don't make anyone slaves. Those people aren't forced to work at those factories.

Also, we are not being ripped off paying $100 for those shoes. Those shoes are not the only ones in the market and the natural demand for those shoes sets their price. If people decided they weren't worth $100, they would not be able to sell them at that price.

With that said, the last pair of shoes I bought were purchased from a corporation and they only cost $15.

That backs up neither assertion that they should be servants or that oil should be nationalized.

Yeah, it isn't cruel to move some place with wages lower then you can imagine(they can make 10 shoes an hour for example, at like, 10 cents an hour), then when the economy starts to breath they leave o somewhere cheaper(sorta like they are doing to us, but our economy was always decent).

In Japan some of the Toyota factories literally work the people untill they can't use their arms anymore, 22+ hours a day. alot of those people are from other countries and threatened with deportation unless they listen; so if you complain it's back to the shit hole with you. If people decide the shoes are not worth it, they wont buy them, but they will because people love their expensive shoes, andthe workers will be getting payed the same or less if people buy the shoes at $100 or not.

Seriously, you have no clue what we do. You are either uncompassionate or clueless, or an idiot. simple

Seriously, I hate blind corporation hate.  Sure, there are manipulative corporations that are run by greed, but I'm willing to bet the decisions that most corporations make are generally fairly sensible and not at all evil.  Yes, when people make a lot of money, they wield a lot of power, and they can use that power to slant the democratic process and spread whatever information or misinformation they please.  But blaming corporations is just a cop out, like blaming the black or the jews.  I ran an LLC (limited liability corporation) for a while...  it was an internet cafe and I guarantee nothing offensive or subversive took place.  If something is going wrong in the world of business, people are to blame, not the company.

Notice my example with Toyota, and Speedo does the same thing in Pacific countries.

Yes they're forced into it. They have no other choice and their government is in collusion with these corporations. I think you stating that this is blind hate is ignorance on your behalf.

You also made my point for me. If people are to blame and are responsible then why don't they ever get prosecuted. It's always the corporation that's prosecuted. Now you see what I mean.

Not every corperation is bad. But it is economicly driven, not morally. Watch the Documentary "the Corperation" on Free Speech TV's website. There is actually a suprime court decision stating that the corperation's first priority is to its shareholders. The Shell Nigeria oil pump is a huge polluter, one of the biggest in the world, and people who protest it get exicuted. Even here, in North America, there are Indians who have oil pumps on their land and recieve little or no compinsation while their wwater and land is destroyed.

Doom, I will look at one of your examples, about Toyota in Japan.

Read this article.  It's the best I can find on the bad conditions of workers in Japan.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/30/japanese-court-rules-toyota-employee-died-from-too-much-work/

There are plenty of other references on the net about Japanese workers doing 60-80 hours of overtime each month, so they are basically working about 60 - 70 hours a week.  Note that it isn't specific to Toyota either, there have been 150-300 cases of deaths like this in a one year period, states the article.  These are grueling work schedules to be sure, but I've worked as a software programmer and put in 80 hour weeks for a month before as a release deadline approached.  I was well compensated for that schedule, and I worked totally willing, despite the fact that it was sort of required for my job.  I would never do that much work for 5 or 6 months straight, but Japanese culture is weird like that... I bet a lot of these people actually derive a certain amount of self satisfaction from working so hard.

Now look what you said... 22 hours a day.  If you work 5 days a week, you are doing 110 hours a week.  I'm not saying working a 22 hour day is unheard of, but I can't find any source for it.  I've worked that much in a day before... another thing about me is a suffer from occasional bouts of insomnia and when I worked as a programmer, I would stay in the dark and sometimes I would just hit that groove where I wouldn't want to stop.  Again, I did this willingly... no complaints at all.  As far as I can tell, in your post, you have seriously exaggerated the expected work day of Toyota's employees, and placed all of the blame on Toyota.  I don't think that is either fair or accurate.

Also, as a related note, I have a friend who is a mother of two children, and also supports her husband who cooks and shops for the family, kind of a reversal of classic roles there.  She works helping people finance cars for Toyota of America, and her job affords her family a fairly high standard of living.  Take from all this what you will, I'm just putting the whole thing out there for ya.

Well, I guarantee I am much more knowledgeable about business practices and the economy than a great majority of the people here (most likely including you), so I think we can rule our clueless or being an idiot.

A lack of compassion? Perhaps.

I think the latter is far worse to be. As much as I hate people in general, the good people that suffer, and the children for the sake of a few major profiteers and our "cheap" merchendise is rather sickning.

Obviously I would prefer there to be no sweatshops, but I have enough things to worry about in the lives of my and people who are close to me to be overly concerned with something like that.

Thanks.  Back when I registered I used these forums to ask some questions about growing mushrooms, which I haven't done for quite a few years now.  I became interested in these forums again after trying DMT for the first time and becoming interested in how to extract it.  Now I'm just wasting time reading the forums like you I guess.  I am really happy I remembered my old log in info cause now I think its funny to use the "I registered before you" title.

To doom, I agree that exploiting children for cheap labor is a completely despicable act.  But aside from that, a lot of sweatshop information is overstated.  Again, many adults hold jobs at factories making low wages by our standards, but in their country that wage is a livable wage and jobs may be scarce.  I also think that health concerns can be a real issue, any company setting up shop somewhere needs to do everything possible to protect their workers safety.  However even in the states we have coal mine workers breathing in all kinds of bad stuff and they would be pissed at you if you tried to take away their job from them.  The key is that the people who control the conditions should take all reasonable measures to protect worker health, and the people working should want the job.  The wage they are paid is not really relevant (in a good/evil sense) if the other two conditions are being met.  Because of this, I think a lot of sweatshop lore is again, overstated to make it sound more common than it is.  There are bad ones out there still I'm sure, but most large corporations know that you get very bad press if you are found with one of those bad sweatshops.

Actually though, I like the Ben and Jerry's business model where they say no 1 person in a company should make more than 10X anyone else, no matter who is doing what.  I think things would be a lot better if more companies took that kind of hard stance on just what a person is worth compared to another.

And you're a hypocritical prick.

Until then, shut the fuck up.

I never said I wasn't a slave. We're all slaves to this game. CORPORATE GENOCIDE!
