I'd pay you for your time working on my computer, you're welcome to swing around to the bar and spend the money there but I cant in good conscience give away something that isnt mine to give, most bars allow a few shift drinks to be dispensed, I'd have no problem allowing someone those because it's a part of what's written into the P&L for spillage and the like

For all you [and they] know you could have just as easily dropped that on the floor or drunkenly chose a song on the juke. I say let her have it.

I'd dance for joy if I found a place that sells pitchers for seven bucks

the whole tipping situation in this country has gone berserk. the point of a tip is to reward extraordinary service. its not mandatory, its not a supplemental income.
i used to work at starbucks, and trust me, you deal with the shittiest of shitheads at service jobs. so i always try to tip well, just because i know what they have to deal with. and it must be even worse at a restaurant or a bar. but still, the tip is from my generosity, not because its in the fucking policy of the business.

in most bars and restaurants it is the income, servers tend to make half of minimum wage plus the tips, when I was tending bar I worked in one where I made $2.13/hr +tips and I've worked in several where I only earned tips, tipping is important for more reasons than just extraordinary service

i understand that, and which is a reason i tip very well. i just think its unfortunate that our society has turned 'tipping' into 'income'. imo it shouldnt be that way. the business should provide the income, and the customers should reward good service when it is provided

So you're saying businesses should add tips into the prices so they can afford to pay the servers more?
With tips you are able to pay based on your evaluation of the service provided. Seems like a reasonable system to me

When I work in a restaurant/hotel. Servers would bitch about not making very much on some nights, compared to the line cooks..But, they could make $400 in one night from room service..

Exactly.... I knew a guy that got caught stealing drinks and the total $ amount was huge. luckily the owner let him work it off.
