Amanita muscaria var. guessowii (formosa) in Eugene OR?

Hey guys, I usually don't look for aminatas but I've seen a bunch of these lately and they are beautiful!

They look exactly like guessowii but aren't these rare on the west coast? I don't want to take a bioassay without a second opinion here.

Habitat:
nature area, under fir

Gills:
white, barely attatched

Stem:
8", white, some veil remnant, hollow,

Cap:
5" across, really bright, orange grading into yellow from the cap center, flat

Spore print color: white

Bruising:
none

Maybe.  I don't see any concentric rings on the base of the stipe.  Can you find any that do have the rings?

One ring, right? yeah, at around ground level alotta them do. There is one in that pic but it's kinda worn from the trip home.
I can get pics of a few more in a coupla days.

It looks close but your specimen seems to have one collar like ring instead of the concentric rings that I would expect from A. muscaria.

The ones in the second set of pictures look pretty good but the ones in the first look sketchy:confused:

yeah, I'm beginning to think there's at least 2 kinds. But it's strange to find these orange-yellow in the same bed as the rosy ones...


Anyhow, they're really nice to see out in the woods, big and bright and there usually seems to be a variety of mushrooms near the amanita beds, boletes and such.

Most of them are flaking in concentric rings like these

persicina? that would be a rare find for this region too. I think a few of them are flavivolvata but only the rosey ones...the yellow and yellow-orange, hmmm. alan rockefeller agreed with my guess (guessowii) in my initial ID request here so I emailed the mushroom expert today. I'll post here when he replies.

they do seem to show the  colors of all three variations in north america.
According to Tulloss guessowii don't occur in the PNW, i guess the colors in that region are morphological variations of flavivolvata.?
