Light good or bad? End the Madness!
    #915559 -

I have read a ton of posts and everyone dissagrees here, but for fruiting is too much light bad, so lets say it was only heated by light would that pose any problems as long as temp and humidity is good???

What would the temp of your terrarium be if it wasn't heated by the light?

It isn't my terratium, this is a hypothetical question, but lets just say it would be under 70

OK, *hypothetically*:

As long as you are only using the light during primordia formation and cropping (fruiting) stages, then it should be OK. However, it could cause some problems for you when you are waiting for the mycellium to grow up into the casing. During this prepinning incubation stage you want total darkness; otherwise you may accidentally initiate pinning early resulting in poor use of nutrients (many aborts, few fruits, higher incidence of contams, etc). Since the proper temp for this incubation stage is around 85 degrees F, I reccomend you look for another means of heating the terrarium. Heating pads are a cheap alternative. Using a light to encourage pinning when the time is right is a good idea though, as it will result in better looking fruit bodies if nothing else. Try to find a light that has a lot of blue light in its spectrum. Light from outdoors, a grow light, or a full spectrum bulb are all good options.
