4 days after innoculation, bad sign?
    #1770897 - 08/01/03 09:21 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

It's been 4 days since I innoculated 6 glass cups with pesas

When should I give up, dump 'em, and try again?

Relax, sometimes it takes a while. Give them at least 10 days before worrying.

If i remember right, it takes 7 or 8 days for the substrate to be ready after innoculation. Do you see any growth whatsoever?

Why haven't my jars shown any growth yet?
------------------------------------------------------------------------

First mantra of the hobby - "Patience." Germination can occur as early as 2 -3 days, but it may take up to a week or more for he first signs of germination to show. It depends on a multitude of factors - some of which are: temperature, substrate, spore concentration, age of the spores, etc. There are so many different relevant factors it is very hard to determine within the 1st2 weeks why you have not shown germination. Give it at least a week before you worry, and at least 2 weeks before you panic. All you need are 2 spores to germinate and take over the entire jar - and luck is on your side when proper procedures are followed. Please be patient and do not panic after only 2 days, no matter how fast you've read other people's colonization was. Their setup, factors, everything varies just slightly from yours. Now, after a period of time with no germination, analyze all of the possibilities (such as temperature, water content, sterilization procedures, etc.) that would hinder growth. This is your best bet on learning the life cycle, and also learning the peculiarities of your personal setup (as far as variations go).

Ok thanks a bunch, I suppose I shouldn't compare my first attempt to the experts having lots of mycelieal(sp??) growth in 4 days.

Unless you see an oily substance forming , or some pretty colors growing in there ...................GELL OUT HAVE PATIENCE ! It takes more than four days for spores to show signs of germination , then it takes more time before you see mycelium taking a hold of the sub .
PATIENCE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT OF MUSH CULT .

Any information I give is not intended to aide you in the production of potentialy illegal substances !None of my exp comes from growing illegal varities , so take it as you will .

A lot of those instances were you see mad growth after only a few days are because they are not using spores. They are doing some kind of mycelium culture. This could be things like myc syringes, grain to grain transfers, or agar wedges being placed in the jars. I have not had any growth from spore innoculation before 5 or 6 days as of yet. Good luck, and have patience.

The PF tek says that the jars need "indirect light" when colonizing, so I just left them on my desk initially. Bad idea. 10 days later, after much fretting, I put them in the cupboard. Blast off. [noobee]

But yes, in my limited experience, it seems jars vary widely in their growth rate. Some jars I innoculated on July 7th are still far from full colonization, while some I did on the 18th are near ready for birthing. The jars done on the 18th were innoculated with upwards of 3cc per jar, the earlier jars 1cc.

yes. confuses it.

if you're growing tomatoes from seed, and keep on taking out the seeds from the soil to see if they're producing roots, do you expect you're helping your tomato crop, or not?

same deal, sort of. these rules were worked out millenia ago by mother nature: if you expose vegetating mycelium to light, it gets confusing 'fruit' triggers, when it's surrounded by food it could eat, to make it strong.
