Stoner/Doom Albums
    #9140578 -

Favourite albums of this genre?

For starters i'll say:

Sleep - Dopesmoker
      - Sleep's Holy Mountain

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

Kyuss - all albums bar Wretch

In particular Welcome to Sky Valley... A while back when I used to get high several times a day the music selection would always come back to this album.
In my opinion this album should be attached to any bong sold.

anything by boris, really.

bongzilla - apogee
melvins - neither here nor there (great comp by them, honey bucket is missing, but "let it all be" is there, so fuck it)
orange sunshine - love = acid, space = hell ('69 business)
the sword - age of winters (not stoner or doom, epic awesomeness that sounds great when stoned)
queens of the stone age - queens of the stone age (first album only, all the rest suck)
torche - torche (great debut by a great band)
colour haze - co2 (good album, think these cats are from england)
weedeater - god luck and good speed (dirt)
earth - in the style of demons (absolute classic)
acid king - iii (kickass shit. female singer, kinda like electric wizard's sludgy style)
om - conference of the birds (a duo consisting of the drummer and bassist from sleep)
orange goblin - time traveling blues (if you like kyuss, you might like this)
omega massif - kalt (german instrumental group, kinda like isis, neurosis, pelican, ect)

dopethrone is it. i listen to that at least once a week. slept on classic.

but hey, what do i know? i'm just that random wigger that somehow ends up at your shows without anyone else with him who quietly listens to the scenesters talk shit on him. doesn't matter though. i don't listen to anything BUT 50 cent, anyhow.

Saw Down a few weeks back... one of the best shows I've been to, probably the longest set as well, 21 tracks.  Can't wait for next album.

Moby Grape is an American rock group from the 1960s, known for having all five members contribute to singing and songwriting[1] and that collectively merged elements of folk music, blues, country, and jazz together with rock and psychedelic music.

The singer is a schizophrenic, pretty good.

Pilgrimage by Om absolutely ravages my eardrums.  One of the heaviest albums I've heard to date.

Do you know of any bands similar to Om?  I've tried getting into Sleep and Electric Wizard but nothing so far has matched that MASSIVE, heavy, melodic drone that Om manages to pull off.

Dopesmoker by Sleep is probably the closest you'll get from those two bands to Om.  Dopesmoker in my opinion is at least as massive and droning as Om.

I would recommend, if you can get a hold of 'Call of the wretched sea' by Ahab.  Completely different style, but I think you'd appreciate the enormity of the sound and atmosphere.  Huge kit sound, crushing down-tempo riffs.

There really isn't anything out there like them.

I mean, the only thing I can think of to compare the "MASSIVE"ness is Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun and Super Æ, but they don't sound alike AT ALL. Completely different purposes.

Check it out though.

You might also want to check out Boris' album Flood. It's VERY heavy. Not as purposeful and meaningful as OM but it's VERY, very heavy drone.

You can IM me if you want these albums, pm me your screen name

I found that the "Boris With Merzbow" album is quite good as well.  I think my favorite album of theirs is Pink, but in that case it's not really as "sludgey" as the rest of this.
