(((Anyone trade on the Stock Exchange?

Hey guys, i just wanted to see if anyones active or has been active in stocks lately. Ive never traded, but my intuition is telling me that theres an opportunity for money to be made with the current economical status. I guess its kinda morally wrong that Id think that way, but hey, if i can secure my financial situation, its a start for all of us right? lol. So anyways, im wondering if anyone has any advice for me, how to get started, whats better an actual broker or systems like e-trade etc...? any advice is more than welcome!!! Thanks :smile:

edit: and ive thoroughly read the AWESOME stocks post on here, very informative :thumbup:

Recessions only occur because people think the opposite way.

Someone actually called me a "profiteer" the other day when I told them that I've actually made money off the market the last few months, when in actuality I'm the type of person keeping it from collapsing.

You'll probably have to lay out some information like how much money you want to invest, how long you want to invest it, how much risk do you want to take, and how involved in the process do you want to be?

Also, here is a great local place to start learning.

In early September I predicted the bottom to be somewhere around 8k.  It looks now like it might even be a little bit lower than that, but if you're going for the long term, it doesn't hurt to miss the bottom by a little bit, since prices are cheap right now by any measure anyways.  So ya, now's a good time to enter the market.

Eh well, maybe you should wait another month.  Spend that time reading the articles in the newspaper, google finance, yahoo finance, wsj, etc.  Maybe you could apply that knowledge here as a way of getting a general feel for things.

im doing the virtual trading now to get a feel for the process, so maybe a month or two from now ill think about real investment.

Only invest with discretionary income and have a sense of overall economic conditions.

You wouldn't launch a sailboat without first checking weather conditions so do your research and make sure your stocks have the wind at their back.

Don't invest in a particular stock because some guy at work said it was great. When everyone at work is talking about how great stock is that is a good time to sell.
