how do your plants/cuttings survive their trips overseas? can a catha cutting/plant resist a couple weeks of confinement?

really? i thought salvia was a fragile plant but my cuttings have survived more than two weeks in the package... lost only one out of 8... i was wondering that if salvia does it perhaps catha could do as well...

cuttings are very fragile for Catha Edulis, even though they like dry sandy soil, the cuttings and even the plant get picky when conditions aren't great, it likes lots of light, if it doesn't get it, or get too much direct sunlight, the leaves turn red, and that's a sign that it is stressing...
Although a red hue to the leaves with still mostly green pigment in the leaf is a sign of an old plant, but completely red leaves are bad.
Being in a package is awful for it, because you can't keep it too damp for it, and yet you can't keep it too dry and dark, only after a couple of days in the package it starts to hurt.
I'd say if you had 8 cuttings of the Khat like you had the Salvia maybe half would make it, probably less.
Salvia has a lot of turgid water storage to rely on, where Catha doesn't.

That also goes for trying to ship leaves.
Khat leaves are best only when fresh, they degrade quickly once picked, and thus must be picked off the plant and eaten then.. One technique for preserving the leaves, is to wrap them in Banana leaves and then ship them. But the Banana leaf method works for only about 3 days if you're lucky
I bet you could modify the Banana leaf method for shipping an entire live plant. It would help reduce the stress i bet, but you still have a light problem to contend with

Yeh, it'll be hard to get the plant to ship overseas. best bet is to start from seed. as to the potency of khat when the leaves are dried, it does degrade.
