A collection of my poetry.
    #9027756 -

I've been trying to write poetry lately. I don't expect anyone to read all of these, I'm just posting for my own amusement.

Lost Weekends

We're on to our lost weekends now,
our loss weakens our senses somehow
to the songs the Devils sing,
dancing wildly around their six-pointed ring.
Feel the magic of the essence,
the con's total convalescence.
We'll be sure, sure to count our blessings
as we walk through lonely deserts
chasing all our deepest inner pleasures,
and the Devils' interviews
will reveal to us our inner views.
A lonely view for only you,
lonely you left to your only view.

Come, wear the mask of our grand delusion
and join us in our Mass of Illusion
of our holiest Holy Union.

A Letter to God

Could it be, God is feeling unwell,
like me,
sick to his stomach
and weak in the knees
from the human virus?
Afraid and lonely,
with the way the world is today.

Is our deliverance coming soon,
please?
We need to cash in
on your promises now
before it's too late,
with the way the world is today.

Could it be, the Devil has the upper hand,
overwhelming God
with the sheer brute force
of his human minions?
Is He just afraid to tell us,
he lost control
with the way the world is today?

With our luck
God, I'm just waiting
to be struck by lightning
or hit by a meteor.
Please take me home,
with the way the world is today.

Could it be, we are the same two lonely souls?
You can talk to me.
Please God, talk to me.
You can no longer sit above man,
only beside man with me,
beside ourselves,
with the way the world is today.

Don't Push the Apple Cart

We are a part and a parcel -
loving the apple cart cartel.
Everywhere you need a card,
I.D., credit cards,
cards for mailing bills,
or just to say happy birthday,
so I discarded myself,
but first,
should I tighten my belt loop another notch?
Or should I just tighten my tie,
'til I choke on it
like a seagull caught in plastic,
dead by the waves of change
of nickel and copper bonds
shackling me to the ground?
Loaded questions, loaded guns,
daggers in our smiles,
we are a part and a parcel -
loving the apple cart cartel.

If You Don't Like the Weather, Just Wait 5 Minutes

Our love was
like the changing of the seasons.
Hot as a summer's day,
cold as winter's night,
changing colors with the fall,
but the seeds of love would always sprout again
in the spring.

But now the fields are fallow,
nothing grows,
not even weeds
on grounds I've tilled for oh so long.
Tumbleweeds blow by,
memories of yesteryear.
I'm left alone scratching my head,
wondering what to do before the dust storms
bring their gloom.

Bad Dream

I finally saw the light last night,
but something was wrong,
crazily dancing kerosene flames starving
around iron-wrought gates of hell,
far from being a warm friendly glow.
To cool myself, dipped my naked self into all there was,
a lake of swirling clear pure ethyl alcohol.
The room started spinning and spinning,
a series of stills going by like the pages of an open book blowing in the wind,
until finally it stopped on the last page.
Black sparrows took wing from the void,
cackling together their demented song:

"Nothing is real,
all is illusion!
Life is but a show
and truths you can't handle!"

And then I woke up
to sunny rays and birds chirping,
wondering what was wrong.

I like your style but not necessarily the content (particularly the first two).

Thanks everybody. For the hell of it, here is an introductory poem I came up with today for a children's book I'm writing.

My spine is a spine that binds books together.
My eye is an I that lets me shout my love of the big blue sky.
My knees have no need to be for I need no knees,
because my thoughts are legless,
floating like ice cream in root beer
and bubbling over with fizzy childhood memories.

I have no ear, for fear that what I may hear could be irritating.
I do have hair here and there and when I need more I split hairs.
I have no kidney, because remember, as kids we know no knee need be,
because our thoughts were legless,
floating like balloons,
and once you let them go, they never come back.

It's funny that you have all that Jim Morrison stuff. The Doors are a huge inspiration for me. I was actually thinking of the lyrics and rhythm of the song "The Soft Parade" (the last part of the song that goes on for about 5 minutes) during a walk when I thought of the whole lost weekends thing. That, and the stories of John Lennon being drunk all of the time for part of the 70s, which gets called his "lost weekend". It's about the dark side of creativity and mysticism that can consume you and yet inspire at the same time.
